Currently a lecturer in the English Department at Brooklyn College, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia University with a 3.88 GPA, and a BA in English and American Studies. I have taught and tutored since the summer of 2016, when I moved to Hong Kong to take up a position as an IB Literature, SAT, and ACT tutor. Since then, I have taught ESL in Spain and New York, and tutored students for the ACT, SAT, PSAT, SSAT, ISEE, SHSAT, and GRE, as well as the AP exams in US History and Literature, and the SAT Subject Tests in those areas. I have been a lecturer at Brooklyn College since January of 2018, where I have taught Intro to Composition, Intro to Literature and Research, Intro to Creative Writing, and Advanced Exposition.

I myself was not always a committed or enthusiastic student. It took me a long time to discover how to make school work for me. I have since dedicated my career to helping students find their love of learning, and achieve their full potential. I pride myself on my ability to adapt my approaches to the specific goals and learning styles of my students, whether they be in elementary school, or college.

As a high school student, I received a 760 on my math SAT and an 800 on my ELA. I took honors and AP math courses throughout my high school career, and received 5's on the AP Euro, AP American, AP Bio, AP English, AP Latin, AP Comp Sci, AP Government and Politics, and AP Macroeconomics exams. I also received 2 gold medals for my performance on the National Latin Exam during my high school career.

I am always on-call for my students. For me, true academic support requires a strong relationship with a student, one built on trust, honesty, and a willingness to adapt. I'm always happy to talk with students and parents, regardless of whether or not they are my clients. Please reach out, and hopefully I can be of some assistance.

Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Columbia with a degree in American Studies, and have worked as an independent history tutor for about four years.
ISEE

ISEE

As an employee at Ivy Global, I went through hours of training before I could tutor students for ISEE. I trained to tutor students at all levels of the exam, and have done so for the last three years. I keep up to date on all materials available on the market, and I pride myself on my ability to select workbooks and exercises that match my students' needs. As I do in all subjects I tutor, I work to adapt my teaching style to the needs and preferences of my students.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

As a lecturer in the English department at Brooklyn College, I have to deliver a variety of talks, lectures, and presentations throughout the semester. I also teach SAT, and ACT courses. Both jobs require that I employ the fundamentals of good public speaking, which I learned while training for these jobs, and as an award winning Model UN participant in high school. I know what techniques work for students of all ages.
SAT Math

I have been tutoring students for the SAT since 2016, for all four sections of the exam. I received a 1560 on my SAT, and run an SAT company called Tutoring Service of New York, for which I create math handouts and other materials.

Great teacher, very patient!

Andrew was very effective in identifying areas of improvement for my daughter and providing a summary of her development plan. He was very patient with her, and had good suggestions in approaching the writing section.

Encouraging and Flexible Tutor

I feel much more capable and confident about taking the SATs after working with Andrew. My practice test scores have improved, particularly in the Reading section, and I give credit to his guidance and encouraging attitude. His flexibility with my difficult schedule was also really appreciated! Would definitely recommend to others.

Patient tutor provides tips to make math more approachable

Andrew was so helpful. Andrew gave good time-management tips, and walked through the concepts that were giving Josh trouble, especially algebra. Andrew showed him multiple ways to go through these kinds of problems, and he is already seeing an uptick in his math scores. Andrew is engaging, patient, and supportive, and he was a pleasure to work with.
