Hiya! I’m Tanner, and I have a master’s in economics with a focus on labor and public economics and applied statistics. I was a TA for 3 years during grad school and have been tutoring for nearly 2 years since. My fundamental approach to education is to help my students build a real understanding through application. So many courses, teachers, professors out there believe that a simple demonstration is enough for students. I’ve spent hundreds of hours of my life listening to people recite lecture notes and the value gained over just skimming them myself tends to be marginal at best. It always frustrated me that professors rarely if ever discuss the useful tools, math tricks, and patterns to look for when making your way from setup to solution.

My teaching focuses on the tips and tricks, the patterns, and the intuition of how to solve problems, not just a list of answers. It is my goal to ensure that my students are the best prepared not only for this week’s homework or the upcoming test, but for the next chapter, the final, the next course. Teaching my students how to approach and solve problems, instead of just showing them some work and a solution, means that not only will they have an easier time acing their finals and entry exams, they’ll see results across the board.

Business and Economics:
A majority of my teaching has been in economics coursework. I’ve taught everything from intro level courses to advanced undergraduate and early grad school field specific work. I’ve lectured and been a teaching assistant for various introductory and intermediate micro and macroeconomics courses, and I regularly tutor international trade, advanced macro, game theory and labor, public and urban economics. If you have any other economics coursework that you’re not sure is covered by the above, feel free to send me a sample of your lecture notes or a homework question and I’ll take a look and see what I can do for you.

Math and Statistics:
As per math tutoring, most of my students come to me for applied statist

Macroeconomics

Macroeconomics

I've ta'd and taught discussions for macroeconomic coursework from introductory material through senior level elective courses on macro theory. Specific courses I've taught and tutored include intro and intermediate macro (using primarily the mankiw and romer textbooks), advanced macroeconomic theory , trade economics, business forecasting and macroeconometrics.
Microeconomics

Microeconomics

I've taught and tutored close to every undergraduate or high-school appropriate topic and course in microeconomics. Specific courses that I most frequently tutor include intro and intermediate micro, game theory, labor, public and urban economics, advanced micro theory and applied microeconomics. My least taught micro subject is transportation economics, though with a bit of time to prepare and make notes I can handle anything except some graduate level game theory and advanced micro theory.
STATA

STATA

I have ample experience using and tutoring STATA for a variety of applications from basic summary statistics and regression to big data and basic machine learning. My primary experience with STATA is for standard data analysis and regressions, such as Ordinary Least Squares, Non-linear models (e.g. Probit and Logit), Regression discontinuity, Difference in Differences regression, and non-parametric regression (Kernel density models, decision trees).

Very patient

Tanner is teaching me business statistics. This is my second time taking this class. He is ver patient at going over the material as many times as I need to get it. It is the first time that I am starting to understand this class. He has a sense of humor about it.

Knowledgable

Tanner does a great job breaking things down for me. He knows the program and how to navigate the data. I will use him again to fill in for my professors gaps.

Knowledgeable and Clear tutor

Tanner really knows his stuff! I started working with him one week before my money and banking exam and my intermediate microeconomics exam. He brought me up to speed quickly with his explanations of the concepts and help with practice problems. I got a much better score on my exams than I could’ve gotten without him! Before the exams, he also gave me a bunch of clear explanations and summaries of content that would be on the exams that helped even more! I am very impressed with his tutoring and will definitely continue working with him throughout the rest of my economics major as much as I can!!

worst tutor ever

what kind of a tutor does not have a zoom subscription, I know its tax deductible for you guys. By far the worst tutor I have ever had, spend half the session sending each other zoom links every 15 minutes and fixing technical issues. GO TO SOMEONE ELSE.

Great, knowledgeable tutor

All it took was one session with Tanner for me to understand some tricky areas in my college Macroeconomics class and to finish the course. His explanations were clear and he made sure I got it. Thank you!

Amazing tutor and very effective!

Tanner has been working with my son for the past two semesters on micro and macroeconomics. My son is currently a sophomore attending a Big 10 College. Tanner was an essential and intergral part of my son's success with these two classes. Tanner often asked for my son's lessons ahead of time so he could be prepared to work with him with the concepts presented in the lessons. Tanner was not only extremely knowledgeable but would work around session times that could accommodate my son's schedule. I cannot say enough great things about Tanner as an Econ tutor. My son really enjoyed working with Tanner!

Wonderful, clear, and understandable

He helped with my group project along with studying for the final exam. He spoke well and shown step by step process of how to solve the questions. I ended up getting a really good grade on my homework. I definitely recommend him.

Macroeconomics Analysis

Tanner was detailed when reviewing the questions from my assignment that I needed more clarity on. Definitely recommend him to anyone... and will use him again for future assistance.
