I moved to NYC to earn my teaching certification through graduate school at the American Museum of Natural History. My teacher training there prepared me to use strategies to engage a variety of learners in science content. I also have access to Museum resources for hands-on activities to bring science concepts to life. I currently teach high school Earth Science and so I have experience in preparing students for the Regents while incorporating elements of my time in the field and in the museum.
As a geology graduate student, I also gained experience in teaching college-level Earth Science courses. I lived in the Pacific Northwest and incorporated outdoor experiences into my studies and into my teaching. Now that I live in the city, I still do my best to not just study nature but experience it, too. After several years in academia, I am also familiar with important strategies for success and essential information. My favorite part of teaching and tutoring is helping students discover the simple rules underlying the complicated processes that help our planet work.

My passion for science and the outdoors lead me to earn a BA then an MS in Geology. Through these academic experiences, I gained both a general knowledge of geology topics as well as in-depth knowledge in specialized courses. I taught undergraduate lab courses, preparing majors and potential majors for high-level science courses. This gave me experience with science in a classroom setting as well as one-on-one learning during office hours. My time teaching and learning geology in a university setting helped me hone my content knowledge as well as my skills in communicating it with a variety of learners.

I am an Earth Science teacher in a public high school in New York City, so part of my day-to-day work is to prepare students for the Regents. I know how to apply the content knowledge we build throughout the year to test-specific strategies. I teach students to efficiently decide which options are reasonable, use the Earth Science Refe
