Hello, my name is Byung! I am a 2019 graduate of Columbia University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and French Language & Literature. I graduated with summa cum laude (top 5% of GPA) and Phi Beta Kappa. Afterwards, I worked at a private equity fund for 1.5 years as a Finance & Legal Analyst.

I have more than three years of experience tutoring high schoolers for the SAT. I received an 800 in SAT Math, 800 in SAT Writing, and 730 in SAT Reading. I also received an 800 in SAT Math II Subject Test, along with AP score of 5 in AP Calculus AB & BC. I completed multivariable calculus (Calculus III & Calculus IV) in high school with As in both subjects. In writing, I received 5s in both AP Language and AP Literature. I have some experience in journalistic writing at major journalism companies. I attended an intensive SAT prep camp in Boston for one summer when I was a high school student. I can provide essential advice and tactics to excel in any portion of the SAT.

I have done college essay reviews for more than four years now. At Columbia University, I was required to take nearly a third of my classes in the humanities. After graduating, I have also guided and helped more than ten high school students with college essays for Ivy League universities and top 20 universities, the best results being Harvard University and Columbia University. I was accepted to Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania, Brown University, and Georgetown University with my college essays.

I played competitively over-the-board chess for the first time at the age of 13. By the age of 18, I had achieved a USCF Rating of 1712, along with a top 10 finish in the state of Florida among all high school students. I play online blitz (3 & 5 minute chess games) with a peak rating of 2052 and a peak rapid (10 minute chess games) rating of 2071, both at the expert level. I have tutored students of all ages from children to adults for more than five years in chess, along with significant gains in rating by around 100-200 points.

College Essay

He provided valuable feedback on how to trim my essay to meet the 650-word limit while preserving its core message. His insights and anecdotes about what has worked for others were particularly helpful. He’s an excellent tutor for college admissions essays.

Very informative and super helpful!

Brian went over some writing tips that could help vastly improve my writing, and he showed me what admission officers expect in a college essay. I struggled a lot with creating uniqueness for my essays, but Brian gave me new ideas that I could take advantage of! Overall, I truly appreciated Brian’s help and look forward to working with him for future essays I will do.
