Hi, I'm James! I graduated from Brown University with a BS with Honors in Geology and Biology, and received an MS in Physiology and Biophysics from Stony Brook University in 2018. I am currently a PhD candidate in vertebrate paleontology at the American Museum of Natural History. I have published several scientific publications, been interviewed for news pieces, and given many public lectures about my research - all testament to my ability to write and communicate even complex material effectively. I have also been a teaching assistant for a variety of classes, which helped me to hone my ability to work with students in both 1-on-1 settings and larger groups. I learned that the best teachers create a dialogue with their students, discussing the material instead of simply lecturing about it. This realization guides my tutoring philosophy. The excellent evaluations I received from my students at Brown attest to my skill as a 1-on-1 tutor. During school breaks, I also worked with my younger siblings on homework and projects, which gave me experience as a tutor for students of all levels in many subjects.
I have extensive experience tutoring for the GRE, an exam on which I received excellent scores (99th, 95th, and 93rd percentile on writing, reading, and math, respectively). I am particularly knowledgeable about geology, evolutionary biology, and comparative anatomy; however, paleontology is an interdisciplinary science, and my education has exposed me to the fundamentals of physics, chemistry, and math, in addition to geology and biology.
