I provide affordable tutoring sessions to children and adults who are experiencing difficulties with reading, writing and spelling the English language. I am a certified English teacher and have over 15 years of full time classroom teaching experience and I am a specially trained reading tutor for overcoming reading difficulties. I have been providing 1 to 1 reading intervention sessions for the past five years and have had great success with my students.
My reading tutoring sessions follow the Orton Gillingham Method. This is the gold standard method of teaching children who face difficulties with reading. It is a research and phonics based approach that is the basis of any noteworthy reading remediation program.
I diagnose the deficiencies in the reading process and I prescribe activities to overcome these deficiencies. I work on the five components of reading: phonemic awareness. decoding, reading fluency, and reading comprehension strategies.
Additionally, I provide math tutoring sessions for children struggling with math concepts for grades 1-8. I also have test prep programs for TACHS/COOP/HSPT/ISEE/SSAT/SHSAT. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an Orton Gillingham trained reading specialist and this is the only known methodology that can be used to help with reading instruction with a dyslexic student. there are many programs for reading instruction but they are all variations from this one methodology. It is multi-sensory, sequential, incremental, individualized, and direct instruction of the code for reading English.
I am an Orton Gillingham trained reading teacher. My most recent jobs have been one on one tutoring of K-6 students with difficulties with reading, writing and math. I have taken a number of classes that deal with the education of children with learning issues/disabilities. I have over twenty years of experience in schools. In the past few years, my work has been mostly with elementary school age children.

As an Orton Gillingham trained tutor, I have had extensive experience with teaching beginning readers handwriting. I have taken the 70 hours of coursework under the supervision of a fellow of the Orton Gillingham Academy and within the coursework, there was instruction on handwriting.
I am an Orton Gillingham trained teacher. I have tutored 200 hours in Susan Barton's tutoring program. I have the required 70 hours of coursework in Phonics taught by a fellow from the Orton Gillingham Academy. I am well versed in the PAF program and the Wilson Program. I am currently doing one to one intervention for reading challenged students with use the of phonics based programs at a charter school in the Bronx, NYC.
