My goals is to provide Orton Gillingham Reading Tutoring for students who are having reading, writing, and spelling issues. The Orton Gillingham method of teaching reading is the basis for following programs recommended for struggling readers: Wilson, PAF, Susan Barton's Program and any other program which is a PHONICS based program.
My professional experiences as a certified middle school/high school English literature and language teacher and my personal experience with dyslexia prompted me to acquire training in the Orton Gilllingham Approach to Reading Intervention. After quite a number of successful interventions with a number of students, I feel that I am best equipped to help students having trouble with reading.
A typical Orton Gillingham lesson includes activities that utilize the pathways of sight, hearing and motion to assist with the process of reading. The lesson are both diagnostic and prescriptive. I diagnose where there are deficiencies in the reading process and I prescribe activities to overcome these deficiencies. I work on the five components of reading: phonemic awareness (the knowledge and manipulation of sounds in spoken words). decoding( the ability to understand the relationship between written and spoken letters/sounds), reading fluency (the ability to read with accuracy, appropriate rates, expression,and phrasing), and reading comprehension strategies.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an Orton Gillingham trained reading specialist and this is the only known methodology that can be used to help with reading instruction with a dyslexic student. there are many programs for reading instruction but they are all variations from this one methodology. It is multi-sensory, sequential, incremental, individualized, and direct instruction of the code for reading English.
