In addition to all my experience teaching English literature, I have special training help children with reading disabilities. I am trained to teach children who have dyslexia, dysgraphia, or other issues which make reading a difficult task. I have been trained by the Reading Reform Foundation and the Academy for Orton Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. I have experience using Preventing Academic Failure (PAF), WILSON, BARTON, and RECIPE FOR READING programs as reading intervention programs. If your child is receiving interventions with these programs at school, I can reinforce the concepts that are being taught at school.
I always begin with a diagnostic assessment where I discover your child's reading strengths and weaknesses. Using these results, I will create a custom program for your child. I will diagnosis your child's specific reading problems and prescribe activities to overcome these deficiencies. I will use the Orton Gillingham Method to teaching reading in my program planning. This is the gold standard method of teaching children who have difficulties with reading. It is a research and evidence based methodology that is the basis of any noteworthy reading remediation program. My sessions will work on the five components of reading,; phonemic awareness, decoding, encoding, fluency, and comprehension.
I also provide test preparation for the ISEE, TACHS, COOP, HSPT, and SSAT. This would include a diagnostic exam, in depth sessions for verbal and math sessions and practice exams. All my work is customized for my clients needs.
