Bio

Hello! My name is Gen, and I'm a software and astronautical engineer with a love for math! I currently am an engineer at an intelligence & space company and have worked at the National Museum of Mathematics and JPMorgan. I have been tutoring for over 10 years and really enjoy what I do. I've had students go from failing, with the possibility of being held back, to receiving high marks on their state tests and report cards. I teach K -12, and I also specialize in test prep for the SHSAT, ISEE, SSAT, & SAT Math.

I attended Stuyvesant High School and love preparing students for the SHSAT. I have written several of my own research papers, including the Combinatorial Applications of the Catalan Numbers and Finding Infinite Solutions to Pell's Equation.

I have a Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics & a Graduate Certification in Astronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California.

Mathematics is a wonderful subject full of interesting ideas and possibilities. If a student isn't enjoying math, it is because the concepts are not being presented to them in a comprehensible manner. I'd love to help your child unmask the joys of learning math; please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Approved Subjects

Actuarial Science

Actuarial Science

At Stuyvesant, I took Actuarial Mathematics and received high marks. The class was in preparation for taking the Society of Actuaries Probability Exam (SOA Exam P). I worked with fellow students in the class to help them prepare for the exam.
Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I took Algebra 1 in school and received high marks, a 95, on the Regents exam. The class was self-taught, which left some of my fellow students confused. I took this opportunity to help tutor them in the subject.
Biology

Biology

I received high marks, a 96, on the Living Environment Regent and took A.P. Environmental Studies at Stuyvesant. Biology is necessary in building a fundamental understanding of one's surroundings. While tutoring, I will start with the basic concepts of the core topics and then delve into more detail on the ones the student is struggling with and/or needs to master for testing.
C++

C++

I have worked at JPMorgan as both a technology analyst and software engineer and am currently a software engineer at an intelligence & space company.
Common Core

Common Core

I've been tutoring K-12 students for the past 10 years. I have a BA in mathematics and have worked with the National Museum of Mathematics with their youth programs. I have taught students the common core and state standards for both math and reading.
Computer Gaming

Computer Gaming

I'm a professional software engineer with 5+ years of professional experience. I have written games from scratch in C, such as Game Boy Color, using emulators.
Computer Science

Computer Science

I have 7+ years of experience as a software engineer, specializing in C++ and Java. I have worked at JPMorgan as a front-end engineer and Raytheon as a full-stack engineer. I have designed software applications.
Desktop Publishing

Desktop Publishing

I've built and deployed several web applications and sites. Deployments in the past have been done using Jenkins, GitLab, or CyberDuck. Front end frameworks/libraries are primarily React and Angular; back-end has been Node, Express, or Vue.
Discrete Math

Discrete Math

At Macalester College, I took discrete mathematics. The class covered "Combinatorics: A Problem Oriented Approach" by Daniel A. Marcus and "Number Theory Through Inquiry" by D. Marshall, E. Odell, and M. Starbird. For the class, I wrote a paper on real-world applications of modular arithmetic.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I've helped the National Museum of Mathematics with their programs geared toward younger students. Their outreach programs specialize in more elementary subjects and applying mathematical concepts to the real world.
General Computer

General Computer

I am a professional software engineer with 5+ years experience.
Geometry

Geometry

Geometry was one of my favorite subjects and I received high marks, a 97, on the Regents exam. I tutored fellow students who were having difficulty with the course material. I found that comprehension of the material greatly aided with constructing proofs.
ISEE

ISEE

I have tutored students for both the ISEE and the SSAT, as they are both used for middle school admittance.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I served as a teacher's assistant for a math research class. I enjoyed helping underclassmen with their research papers. I've helped outreach programs that specialized in more elementary subjects like Prealgebra.
Regents

Regents

I have middle & high school tutored students for many years. For specialized exams, I have tutored for the Algebra I and II, Geometry, Physics, and Biology Regents. My students have all scored top marks on the exams, and I am very familiar with the NYS curriculum.
SAT Math

SAT Math

I received a 2130 on the SAT, with a 740 in math. I will start with a preliminary test to gauge where the student is at and then go over each question to determine not only how to solve for the answer but which methods to use in order to maximize time efficiency.
SHSAT (NY HS admissions)

SHSAT (NY HS admissions)

I've tutored countless students in SHSAT and ISEE and they have all gotten into the top specialized high schools. I also attended the specialized high school that is the hardest to test into (Stuyvesant).
