My name is Linwood (Chris) A. I am originally from the Poconos area of Pennsylvania. I graduated from Fordham University with an Engineering Physics degree and a concentration in Mechanical Engineering. I hold a Master's Degree in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education. I reside in New York City where I am a 5th year science/math special educator at a 6-12 school in Harlem.
Since I was young, I have observed and learned from family members in the educational world, especially my mother, who has been a mathematics/special education teacher for the past decade, and my aunts, who were administrators in the NYC school system. I have seen the dedication they have towards their students in helping them succeed inside and outside the classroom.
I followed in their footsteps, as I was accepted into Teach for America, a program that develops high-achieving graduates into educators for underfunded and underperforming schools across the country. After completing my two years of service, I remained at my placement school in Harlem where I am entering my 5th year of supporting my students' academic and social-emotional growth as a Science/Math Special Educator. Over the past 5 years, I have had the honor of teaching bright, driven students in Physics, Algebra 1, Earth Science, Chemistry, and Biology, navigating a variety of learning styles to ensure my students reach their full potential. I have not only been able to help students succeed in their endeavors, but also find the confidence they need to be the best version of themselves.
In my time tutoring/teaching, I have helped students receive better grades as well as increase their intellectual curiosity. If students have any questions concerning homework, exam preparation, or just need clarification on anything, feel free to send me an email at any time. In my experience as tutor and teacher, I have seen with the right amount of help and attention, any student struggling with a subject can achieve success, and I hope to bring that success to those I tutor.
