Originally from Tanzania in East Africa, I spent my elementary, middle, and high school years at an International Baccalaureate (IB) school, taking advanced courses in mathematics, physics, and chemistry. After graduating from high school I got accepted into the engineering school at Columbia University. There I studied civil engineering, taking more classes in physics and mathematics. I also took a few finance and business courses on the side for technical electives. I graduated from the school of engineering in the summer of 2014.

I have been tutoring for most of my life. I started by helping fellow students in middle school, joining a tutoring group at university, and finally becoming an independent tutor after graduation. I have worked with students of all ages, from elementary school to graduate programs, in a wide variety of subjects. I have worked extensively with students with special needs and learning disabilities, and am very experienced in catering my tutoring style to their needs.

I love tutoring and love seeing students learn new topics and grasp concepts. I am very devoted to my work and want to make sure students understand the core concepts of what they're learning, rather than just being able to plug and chug numbers. My goal is to make students interested in their learning and give them the skills and tools they need to succeed.

Please feel free to contact me for any tutoring needs. Although I have areas that I am personally stronger in (science and mathematics), I am more than willing to help students learn whatever they need. I am adept at grasping new concepts very fast, so even if I have not seen the material before, a few days of preparation will be all I need to help students excel in that area.

All ages and all topics are welcome.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have tutored students on the fundamental concepts within algebra, including the idea of a function and what exactly a function is. I feel that it is very important that students should understand what exactly the fundamentals of mathematics are saying. Simply saying that y = x draws a diagonal line across the paper does not tell the student what that line means, and what x and y represent. I believe it is vital for students to have a strong foundation to build upon.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Algebra 2 delves deeper into the important concepts of functions and expressions. In middle and high school I saw several students fail to grasp the important concepts presented by algebra 2 such as quadratic equations, sequences and series, and probability because the teacher merely chugged out numbers rather than explain what those numbers mean. I tutor students to understand the importance of expressions and other concepts within algebra 2.
Calculus

Calculus

I have tutored students in many different topics of calculus from differentiation from first principles to differential equations. Calculus is a very broad topic and the experience varies greatly depending on the area of calculus. I have taken courses all the way up to differential equations and calculus on 3-d objects. I have tutored every course of calculus I have taken, and am still continuing to learn more about the incredibly vast topic. I am more than happy to help students on their road through this incredible branch of mathematics.
Chemistry

Chemistry

I have been tutoring chemistry for over a decade now. I have helped students of almost all grade levels further their journey into the field of chemistry. I have tutored chemistry as both an introductory course and as a more advanced college-level course. I have created chemistry programs for students at home during the pandemic, and I have assisted multiple students with learning disabilities with their chemistry studies.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

During the pandemic, I helped numerous young students by creating math programs that helped introduce complex topics in a simple and engaging manner. Many students were left behind by the pandemic and I worked with them to get them back on track, or ahead, of their math studies. Teaching mathematics to a younger audience has its unique challenges which I took into account when creating my math syllabuses and teaching programs.
Geometry

Geometry

I have taught geometry at both the basic, introductory level, and at the more advanced level involving integral calculus. I became intimately involved with the subject when I was designing structures for my civil engineering degree. I prefer to always teach the meaning behind the many formulas in geometry, rather than just throw them all at students.
Physics

Physics

Ever since middle school, I have been in love with physics. It is what pushed me to get my degree at Columbia University in Civil Engineering. I have taken multiple advanced courses in physics that have covered motion with calculus, and advanced topics such as quantum particles and relativity. I have been tutoring physics for over a decade, having helped students with difficult subjects such as rotational kinematics and electromagnetic flux.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I have been tutoring the foundations of prealgebra for as long as I can remember. I have helped numerous students grasp the fundamental concepts needed such as fractions, integers, and exponents. I thoroughly test students on these concepts as they consist of the stepping stones for all the rest of mathematics. I have helped students of almost all ages, from elementary to adulthood, with these concepts.

Physics lesson

Again, Hussayn really helped to break down components of finding forces in physics problems. He helped where I got stuck and also talked through where I may have gone wrong. He was patient with me and very helpful. This was in preparation of an upcoming exam.

Physics lesson

Today’s lesson with Hussayn was long overdue. I have been struggling with entry level physics since the beginning of my college physics class. It is now 2 months into the class and I have been feeling defeated. I was hesitant to seek a tutor, but knew it was the right path for me. During our session Hussayn tried to understand where my thought process was and where I needed help. And truthfully I felt I had learned more in that 1 hour session than I have in the past 2 months of my class. I will definitely be seeking his help in the future if I get stuck and can’t seem to grasp new concepts again. I am very grateful for today’s session!

On time and prompt

Using Wyzant for the first time, Hussayn made our first session very comfortable and was helpful in preparing a strategy to not only help my son prep for the sat exam but also with daily school work!

Hussayn was very patient, understanding and knowledgeable of the subject.

Hussayn shared strategies with me on how to find solutions to some civil engineering mechanics problems. He is outstanding and a pleasure to work with. He was efficient and reliable and I would highly recommend him.

Great Tutor

Hussayn has a lot of energy and patience in teaching even the most difficult subjects. He has a good way of breaking complex topics into simpler, easier to grasp, sections. He clearly was knowledgeable on the subject and came in with a good strategy in mind.
