About Jessica

Hey there! I’m Jess. I first started tutoring in high school as part of a National Honors Society program and I continued while an undergraduate at NYU.

I have experience tutoring most high school subjects but have a particularly strong attachment to middle and high school math. In my experience, I've found that too many students get frustrated too easily when learning a new concept and quickly declare that they hate math. As a student who was in the same boat for many years my tutoring is especially well tailored to these kinds of students.

I find it very fulfilling to step in and help otherwise talented students get over these small stumbling blocks so they can find success in math the way I did. I like the challenge of finding a new and different way to explain a difficult concept and it is an exciting experience when a new approach finally clicks for a student. Altogether I hope to show that with a little innovative thinking about the subject, math can even be fun!

Are you an adult or college student studying for the GRE after being away from school for awhile and need a math refresh? I'd love to help you with that as well!

Some of my own standardized test scores include 780 Verbal/720 Math SAT I and 760 SAT II Writing. I also scored 5s in AP Biology, AP US History, AP US Government and Politics and AP Comparative Government and Politics and 4s in AP Spanish and AP Statistics. I scored 165 Math/166 Verbal (out of 170) on the GRE.

Unfortunately, Wyzant's "tutoring radius" doesn't really account for the difficulty of getting around via public transportation in New York City. I am currently only taking new students for weekday evening sessions in Manhattan below 96th street or in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Park Slope, Prospect Heights, Fort Greene or Clinton Hill. I am also available for weekend sessions.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Great Tutor

I highly recommend Jessica. She is very patient, knowledgeable, and very calm. She is really helping my daughter to catch up after falling behind in her regular classes of Algebra. I am very appreciative of Jessica's efforts to bring up my daughter to another level.
