If you choose me to work with your child, I guarantee that his or skills in reading, writing, or critical thinking will improve. Your child will develop a greater facility with writing, a love of reading for pleasure as well as for information, and improved problem-solving skills. We will work on a variety of tasks and activities, all aligned with the Common Core, to improve and refine a multitude of skills and abilities. Together we will work on reading comprehensions, writing exercises (creative, informational, and persuasive) and grammar practice. We will read poetry, non-fiction, short fiction, and drama, and learn new and interesting things from all of them. I look forward to working with you.

I can help your child organize their assignments by difficulty, work level, and interest, so that boredom is never an obstacle that has to be overcome. I stress taking regular breaks, and incorporating physical activity in the work day (this is especially important for younger children). The key thing about study skills is that not every tactic works for every student. Some students thrive in quiet environments - others need a white noise of music to tune out in order to concentrate. This is the most important thing to take into account when helping a learner with his or her study skills - you have to find out what works for *that* student, and not what works for yourself.

Highly Recommended

Micheal's initial tutoring session with my daughter, Valentina, went great. He quickly built a lighthearted connection with Tina, which he skillfully managed to maintain throughout the session. Micheal smoothly shifted their conversation from small talk, to academic work, while incorporating a writing task that she found humorous. Remarkably, he was successful in encouraging Valentina to produce over a page and a half of content during her first tutoring lesson.
