I am recent graduate of Cornell University and an experience, full time tutor. I majored in physics and concentrated in chemistry with 3.8 gpa. I was also valedictorian of my high school and I have published research in biophysics. I took a variety of physical and life science classes so I have a strong background in physics, chemistry, biology, and math. I have tutored for multiple tutoring agencies in the Boston area and privately for families. I have tutored students in high school math, science, and writing at both intermediate and advanced levels. I have also helped prepare students for AP, SAT, and SAT II subject tests. I have also tutored students at Harvard, Boston University, and the University of Chicago. I help students learn the material by helping them master their home work, complete additional unassigned practice problems, organize and plan ahead for upcoming tests, and read ahead so that they can better understand and absorb material in class lectures.
For SAT preparation, I try to identify where students struggle the most, work on lessons related to that material, assign home work for students to complete on their own, work on practice SAT questions, and then work on full length SAT exams which I can provide. There are some strategies that can help with reading comprehension as well as math so that students can more efficiently answer questions.
I would like to make the learning process fun and less stressful and to encourage study habits that I have found to be successful. I teach students both the subject material and how to approach studying, planning, and persevering in difficult classes. I try to help them become resourceful, resilient, and to value and enjoy academic success as a personal accomplishment and as a long term goal and habit. I want to help students not only understand the material so that they can achieve higher scores, but also hopefully to appreciate the widely applicable insights and skills that math and science can provide.
I look forward to working with you.
