Hello and thank you so much for visiting my profile!
To give some context on my educational background, I earned my PhD in Genetics and Molecular Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I attended undergraduate at the University of Chicago, where my official major was Biological Sciences with a specialization in Genetics or Molecular and Cellular Biology. I have strong backgrounds in math and science- in high school, I was a part of an elite Science Olympiad team, a student teacher for higher level biology courses, graduated with 9 years of science credit and 8 years of math credit, and even attended a local college to take multivariable calculus and linear algebra. During my college years, I was involved in 3 major research projects and gained extensive experience in biological research as well as coding and computational analysis. As a PhD student, I taught advanced molecular biology in a 400-level undergraduate course where I not only presented information to students, but I extensively developed curriculum and supported students in 1-on-1 meetings outside of class. I have taken many classes in a diversity of scientific fields, worked as a private tutor, worked as a substitute math teacher, taught high-level undergraduate biology, developed curriculum for math and science courses, and gained extensive expertise in Math, Chemistry and Biology.
While I have extensive experience in these fields, my pedagogical methods are what really set me apart. My approach to tutoring changes from person to person because, as I have personally learned, each student learns differently. A unique aspect of my experience is that I've worked with a wide variety of students, ranging from those who struggle with executive functioning skills to advanced students taking high level college courses. I firmly believe that the key to excellent teaching is communicating with students on a level that transcends textbooks.
I hope this was helpful! Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
