Robin is very kind and flexible. She knows how to speak with kids and get them engaged. My son loves to work with her.
My eleven year old daughter has been having lessons with Robin since September 2013. Robin is a great and passionate tutor, extremely helpful and my daughter enjoys her classes. She is very experienced, and professional, but she is also very friendly and warm person. Robin always finds time for my daughter whenever we ask her, she is a very flexible person. I really recommend Robin as a great person and tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have a master's degree in school counseling from Hunter College. When I was doing my internship for my degree, I worked at Upward Bound, which is an educational support program for high school students held on Saturdays at New York University. During that time, I taught a semester-long course for juniors and seniors called "College Readiness" which dealt with various topics and issues related to college, including how to study for the PSAT and SAT, how to research various colleges and universities, how to complete a college application, how to write an essay for a college application, how to apply for financial aid, etc.
I am a certified English Language Arts teacher with over 12 years of teaching experience with the Department of Education. I am fully trained in the Common Core Standards for ELA, through both instruction of CCLS-based curriculum and the scoring of the state exam over the past 7 years. I have also privately tutored students extensively in reading writing skills related to the CCLS.
I received my teaching masters from Fordham University, and have been an English teacher with the New York City Department of Education for the past 13 years. I am trained in the ELA common core standards and in the delivery of the aligned curriculum for that subject area. I have worked with students of all ages in reading and and writing, and have been recognized as a high qualified teacher in my school. I have also worked as an English tutor for the past 5 years, focusing on vocabulary, spelling and grammar in addition to basic reading and writing.
I have been trained in the Rewards reading program by Anita Archer. I have also worked with colleagues at my school to implement the Wilson reading program to support struggling readers. Much of my individual and small group intervention work has targeted phonics as a way to assist readers who are reading below grade level.
I was a 7th grade ELA teacher for 7 years, and I am now the AIS (academic intervention services) specialist in my school. I work with students in grades 6th through 8th in ELA instruction, specifically in the areas of reading and writing. During small group instruction, I work with students who need extra support in the areas of fluency, phonics and comprehension in order to build their reading skills so that they are reading on or above grade level.
