About Mila

I am a PhD student in Anthropology at UC Berkeley (though I now live in New York). I also have a BA in Mathematics and English from New York University.

I have worked extensively as a private tutor over the last eight years. I work with high school and college students helping them write A+ papers for English, sociology, communications, philosophy and history classes.

I also help high school students perform well on math tests.
I specialize in college applications and have helped several high school seniors enter Ivy League universities, including Harvard. I help expertly with application essays, as well as SAT and ACT prep. Additionally, I have helped college students with graduate school applications and preparation for the GRE.

I always tailor my tutoring approach to the needs of my students, challenging them while also ensuring that they enjoy learning. I strive to create an enthusiastic and motivating environment for the students I mentor, in which they feel free to ask questions, learn from mistakes and make constant progress. I believe that students learn best when they are both challenged and given ample support for completing their assignments. I am an expert learner and help students develop learning skills that will serve them well into the future.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Film

As an undergraduate at New York University, I took two semesters of film production classes at the renowned Tisch School of the Arts Film & TV program. I am a PhD student in Anthropology, in addition to having a BA in Comparative Literature and a master's degree in Philosophy. I am an expert reader, having spent no fewer than 9 years in higher education reading extremely complex texts. I am an expert reading tutor and help my students focus in on what's important in a given text. I help them pick out the main ideas and distinguish those form details.

Study Skills

I am currently a PhD student in Anthropology at UC Berkeley. As a part of my PhD, I have worked as a Teaching Assistant for four semesters.
