Writing can be hard. Doing it alone, when you don't have the right one-on-one help, can make it harder. Whether you need help with the college, transfer, or graduate school admission process (essays, strategy, SAT/ACT essay writing, school choice) or writing a high school or college English essay (or a corporate manual, speech or grant proposal), I can make the process easier for you. Writing can be hard. Doing it alone, when you don't have the right one-on-one help, can make it harder. Whether you need help with the college, transfer, or graduate school admission process (essays, strategy, SAT/ACT essay writing, school choice) or writing a high school or college English essay (or a corporate manual, speech or grant proposal), I can make the process easier for you. I understand different thinking styles, and tailor my approach to them whenever possible. My standards are high, but you won't mind; I guarantee some laughter along with a better sense of the written word.

Sessions can take place at my office on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, during the summer in parts of the Hamptons (Remsenberg to Southampton), or most commonly, by Zoom.

I have helped many American and international students find the right fit, "write the right essay," and navigate the admissions process for undergraduate and graduate programs (medical, business, and education). I have served as a volunteer college admissions counselor in a NYC high school, and as an applicant interviewer, alumni ambassador and college fair representative for an Ivy League University. As a writing expert, I have tutored middle and high school clients, taught freshmen at a local university, and led government executives in deductive writing programs. I have written marketing and publicity copy for a major retailer, speeches for a CEO, grant proposals for non-profit organizations, corporate reports, and meta-analyses of public policy for state and local government.

My education: B.A. in English from Cornell University and Masters degree from Columbia University.

  • Hourly Rate: $275
  • Rate details: Rates are $350 an hour for the last two weeks of October and for December 15-January 5. A 48 hour cancellation policy applies. Students are advised to book sessions for those weeks in advance.

Lisa has guided many applicants for freshman, transfer and graduate school admissions through the entire process. She can help you to choose the right school for you, arrange and describe your activities to best showcase your efforts, and guide you in crafting personal statements and supplemental essays that convey the "you" behind the grades and scores. Lisa has served as a volunteer college guidance counselor for a NYC high school, helping juniors and seniors in the application process. She was an admissions ambassador for an Ivy League university for over 5 years, interviewing applicants and representing the university at college fairs. Lisa is an expert writer and teacher of writing; she has experience as a corporate writing trainer, private writing tutor and college adjunct composition professor. She is a member of the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling.
