Beyond my classroom experience at Charter Schools, I've had the pleasure of tutoring students of very different academic paths and abilities - from an elite Horace Mann AP student to Mathnasium low elementary school students. Since January 2021, I've focused on teaching Olympiad material - MOEMS, AMC 8 and Mathcounts. I’ve had great pleasure using George Lenchner books (MOEMS and Creative Problem Solving) and Richard Rusczyk books. In addition to these books, I also enjoy creating my own curriculum.

As a result of years of experience, I’ve become very familiar with the subject matter. I’m aware of the misconceptions and hurdles that students run into and adjust the curriculum when I introduce topics to make sure it doesn't happen. What makes me a successful tutor is being able to find the appropriate pace and comfort for each student, including high-achieving students. My philosophy for each lesson is to ensure that after an engaging and enriching experience, the student becomes more curious about mathematics than prior to the lesson.

Notable accomplishments:
-Mark Twain Intermediate School 8th grade student progressed from 13 to 33 correct answers out of 50 on the math section of SHSAT.
-Horace Mann student became an A- student in Precalculus after receiving C+ in Algebra 2.
-4th grade Math Olympiad student improved his iReady test score, from the previous year, by 26 points; enough to be put in the advance level program for his upcoming year. 6th grade Math Olympiad student improved his iReady test score by 34 points.
-90% of the Regents Exam group passed the Exam.
-At PAVE Charter School, I was awarded the “golden brick” (for best teacher) by the High School Placement Director.

ACT Math

ACT Math

I have tutored an 11th grader for the math portion of ACT. I helped increase her score from 22 to 27. When I was applying to college, I took SAT and got 760 in math. Since then I've received a degree in math from University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

Alg. II and Trigonometry is a fairly advanced course that requires expertise and experience. Even some certified math teachers are not fluent in this subject.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I teach mostly 2nd-5th graders. To be able to be successful in math, a child must build an understanding in elementary math constructs (as opposed to memorizing steps).
GRE

GRE

I believe with practice, you can dramatically increase your GRE math score. There are a lot of problems that can be categorized and learned with just plain practice. All you need to do is understand how to do them (this is where I come in :), practice and you'll see similar ones pop out over and over again. There are also different methods to do them. So, depending on your level of understanding, you can approach them in different ways.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

At this level, it's still not too late to learn not to be afraid of math. It's important to understand these concepts from all angles. I have a lot of experience in teaching and engaging students at this level.

Exceptional

David has been an exceptional tutor for my son, who is preparing for AMC 8 and MATHCOUNTS. He creates custom problem sets tailored to my son’s skill level and interests, ensuring that each session is both challenging and engaging. Beyond providing great material, David takes the time to thoroughly explain concepts in depth, offering insight into multiple problem-solving strategies and clarifying any confusion along the way. My son’s confidence and understanding of higher-level math have grown significantly thanks to David’s thoughtful approach. We’re truly grateful for his dedication and highly recommend him to any student looking to excel in mathematics.

Knowledgeable and patient teacher

David is very thorough with my son and he ensures that he gets the concepts very well. He is very passionate about teaching students and makes sure that the student uses critical thinking. He provides detailed report of how the student is performing each week. This really helps to understand where the student should focus on.

Extremely knowledgeable and patient teacher

My son (Grade 8) has been learning Math from David since six months. According to my son, David is very patient and he goes with the student’s pace of learning and understanding. He spends a lot of time correcting and analyzing the homework. Even if the answer is correct, he makes sure the problems are solved in the most appropriate and less-time consuming method. David understands the student’s capabilities and potential and tailors his teaching, homework and classwork accordingly. He is also very encouraging and a positive person. He is flexible if you need to move classes and is quick to respond to queries and questions.

Great teacher

We’ve had one lesson with David so far and hope to continue. My 2nd grader was very excited, engaged and learnt a lot. David was very patient with him as he asked multiple questions. In just one session my 2nd grader learnt a lot.

Very knowledge tutor!

My son had very little time to prepare for his Geometry Regents, and David was extremely supportive in our limited time. He made suggestions for preparation, assigned problems, and made every effort to ensure that my son understood the topics covered or practiced in the areas he wasn't strong Grateful for all of David's help!

Elementary math

David works with my two boys for their math for a year so far. We are very satisfied with him overall. David does not just lecture the kids, but give them the opportunity to think and talk about the math they are learning. If your kid does not like to be lectured you should try David!

Math educator that deepens and broadens your child's math foundations

David has been supporting my son's math education for over a year. My son is doing great in school but gets bored by the pace of his classroom. Therefore, I hired David to deepen and broaden his math. David incorporates school math curriculum with advanced math concepts and puzzles from Math Olympiads. My son enjoys every class and is proud of his work during the sessions. I also feel very confident that my son will continue to do well in math and logical thinking through classes with David. What I like: 1. David always well prepares for the classes with questions/material on the zoom white boards when the class starts. 2. His weekly homework comprises both the new materials that are covered in that week and the review materials from prior sessions. 3. My son is quick to answer math questions. Regardless of right or wrong, David always continues to probe my son further to make sure my son's understanding. He doesn't just take the correct answers and move on, assuming my son understands it.

Elementary math

David is patient and easy going. He listens to and mentors his students instead of one way teaching. His first class with my son was successful and my son learned a lot from him in only a few classes. We look forward to working with him this coming year.

Knowledgeable, professional tutor

I took a lesson with him. I can say he is very professional tutor. He is knowledgeable in what he teaches and how to teach. He is very patient with children who don’t understand, and his teaching skills make my daughter understand well.

David's great!

I worked with David to help me with a summer college-level calculus class. He was very prompt, had a very available schedule, and most importantly, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. He was great at explaining concepts and showing me how to work through problems. His tutoring really helped me excel in the class. David is a great tutor and anyone would be lucky to work with him!
