For 13 years I've taught adults, high school students, middle school students, and children (in childcare, public library, local hotlines, and tutoring refugees). I'm an English Education teacher and Pennsylvania certified.

My passions are writing, psychology, social sciences, ESL, Spanish, Korean, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access). I completed 2 more degrees in Business Administration and Social Sciences.

For 3 years I tutored ESL (English as a Second Language) teenagers in English and in TOEFL. I've worked with Chinese, Korean, Puerto Rican, Mexican, Peruvian, Ethiopian, Kenyan, and Russian students. ESL students are wonderful and bring great curiosity and dedication.

For 6 years I tutored local childcare students (ages 5–13) with homework on a weekly basis all year. I'm glad to help with tutoring, study skills, homework, or learning Spanish.

For 5 years I operated my own business selling textbooks to students. Throughout this business I used many Microsoft Office applications, e-payment systems, online catalogs, and extracting data from the internet for data mining competitor's prices.

For 1 year I taught high school and middle school (1,100 hours) to satisfy student teaching requirements before becoming Pennsylvania certified. My responsibilities included: lesson planning, creating handouts and class materials, mentoring, and fostering a sense of curiosity and purpose.

For 5 years I managed a PA-registered sole proprietorship while in college (online retail) and grossed over $50,000 yearly. Additionally, I was awarded "highest GPA" in my major with a 3.7/4.0 GPA (63 credits) from Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. Letter of recommendation available by request.

After graduating from 3 colleges and attending 1 year abroad, I am familiar with the college requirements and choosing majors and minors from many selections. I've completed 189 credits with a 3.7 GPA and helped explain the admissions process and financial aid intricacies to various students.
English

English

As a student teacher of English Education, I worked with high school and middle school students for 9 months. In a lead role, I provided instruction, tutoring, and clarification throughout various units. I've specifically tutored ESL students in groups and individually for four years locally and abroad. The majority of my experience is with high school students, though I've worked with adults too. I've worked with people from countries ranging from Puerto Rico, Germany, Ethiopia, South Korea, and Peru.
Korean

Korean

After studying abroad for 13 months, I acquired level 1 Korean from a high-ranking university language program. Through lessons I can teach the alphabet, sentence structures, formal and informal (honorifics), and key vocabulary (up to 200 words). My vocabulary includes the 2 counting systems, common nouns, foods, common locations, food, basic verbs.
Linguistics

Linguistics

I completed 6 courses in language study to obtain an 18-credit minor in Linguistics. Main topics included: language acquisition, dialects, ESL/L2 populations, IPA, grammar, parts of speech, pragmatics, evolution of English, and language theories by Noam Chomsky, Stephen Krashen, and William Lebov. I've also tutored Hispanic and refugee groups in this area for 2 years.
Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access

Providing a college-level introduction to creating a database using Access 2003/07/10 (tables queries, forms, and reports). If Excel isn't enough for your needs (whether personal or work-related) I can help you import data to Access or start fresh. With time, you can use Access like an online form to simplify data-entry with custom build-in macros and buttons. I have an edition of Office 2003+2010 to use during sessions for clear visuals and practice. If you don't have Access, we can use my laptop or a computer at the local library.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I love Excel. It's like the back of my hand. I can treat you like a beginner and go step-by-step, or treat you as an advanced user and jump into formulas & functions. I am proficient in using spreadsheets to calculate formulas & functions (rather than using a calculator). I can also show you how to format and organize your spreadsheet efficiently. In college, I was the first student to test-out of 10 credits of Microsoft Office and the Program Tutor for Business Administration. I've taught & tutored Excel in a professional setting to over 200 adults since 2007. For 8 years I taught computer classes at my local library.
Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint

I've completed the MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) certification – a pass/fall simulation – and was the first in my major to do so. I enjoy explaining parts of PowerPoint for beginners and advanced users. Ask me about design themes, layouts, transitions, animation, internal hyperlinks, external hyperlinks, and custom slide shows. A detailed rubric will be provided for anyone wishing to learn effective presentation techniques.
Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word

I've completed the MOS (Microsoft Office Specialist) certification – a pass/fall simulation – and was the first in my major to do so. I enjoy explaining parts of Word for beginners and advanced users. Ask me about: flyer-making, line spacing, inserting/cropping/aligning pictures, adding borders to table or page, line breaks, inserting field codes, hyperlinks, shapes, SmartArt, citations, footnotes, comments, track changes, and general tips for success. For 7 years I tutored adults in computer classes and for 3 years I was the Business Administration tutor in college. I am familiar with versions 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2016.
Praxis

Praxis

The transcript shows "average performance range" of 158–172. I'm comfortable answering questions related to the math, writing, and reading portions. Please check your state's required score when choosing a goal.
Sociology

Sociology

I've obtained a degree in Social Sciences from Harrisburg Area Community Colleges. My specialty is in: Principles of Sociology, Deviant Behavior, Marriage & Family, and Multiculturalism. Additionally, I've studied "Korean History and Literature" and "Social Class & Issues of Inequality" abroad which centered on the societal injustices through an Eastern perspective.
Spanish

Spanish

¡Hola! As a student of an elementary Spanish immersion program, I completed 6 years of Spanish (from kindergarten to 5th grade). Spanish 1 and 2 are my strongest levels, though I've studied up to level 3. Officially, I tested-out of Spanish level 4. During tutoring sessions I'll provide vocabulary exercises with visuals and find the best learning style the student. Learning a second language requires a careful and patient progression of instruction. With a minor in linguistics and ESL, I know how to target language acquisition in a comprehensible way for all ages. Ask me anything.
