Hello! I’m Dr. Amy B., a PhD-educated art historian with over a decade of teaching, advising, and museum education experience. I tutor art history, writing, humanities, and languages including German and Dutch.
I hold a PhD in Art History (Ancient Egyptian Art) from Emory University, an MA in Ancient Egyptian Language and Culture from Leiden University, and a BA in Ancient Near Eastern Studies from the University of Tennessee. My academic background equips me to help students strengthen critical thinking, research, and writing.
At Emory University, I taught over 12 undergraduate and graduate courses, including Ancient Egypt, hieroglyphs, and digital humanities. I advised 50+ students on academic success, executive function, and career planning. I also worked as a student-faculty liaison to improve communication and equity.
At The Metropolitan Museum of Art, I led college programs, gallery tours, and lectures, mentoring interns and fellows, and developing inclusive programming. I currently serve as an educator with Smithsonian Journeys, guiding cultural learning in Egypt.
My teaching approach is adaptive, student-centered, and engaging. I’ve worked in classrooms, one-on-one, small groups, museums, and archaeological sites. I help students with writing, test prep, language acquisition, and building confidence.
I am fluent in German and Dutch, conversational in Arabic, Chinese, and Korean, and read Spanish and French. Whether you’re tackling writing challenges, exploring history, or learning a language, I’m here to help you succeed!
