Incredibly Patient

Ryan is one of the most spectacular math tutors I have ever worked with. I spent a lot of time on wyzant looking for someone who could help with a graduate-level data science course which was a mix of calculus, probability theory, computer programming, and statistics. Ryan moved adeptly between disciplines, was incredibly patient with my newness to the field of study, and was even able to tackle subjects new to him because of his fundamental comfort with challenging math. I will be in touch with him should further math coursework be necessary in my PhD program.

Kind, responsive, and down-to-earth!

Ryan has been a keen listener and a kind tutor from day one! I've worked with him over several months at this point and I have not one bad thing to say about him. I was up front with him about what I needed from him with my doctoral thesis. I have an advisor who is not familiar with R code, but my stats professor is my 2nd chair so my code and my understanding of the code needed to be solid! On top of that, neither professor could dedicate a whole lot of time, in came Ryan to my rescue! I am an "older" student who went back for my doctorate in clinical psychology and stats is honestly the course that gave me the biggest bouts of anxiety....combine that with these research projects and well...I just needed someone to hold my hand (*virtually LOL). Ryan has been so kind and patient in listening to my worries and frustrations. Honestly, our sessions have been part therapy and part stats lessons! HA! Thanks Ryan!

Knowledgeable, patient, proactive, and passionate about his field

I scheduled a meeting with Ryan after encountering issues with a data analytics assignment for my graduate class. He was very proactive and methodical in his approach. After sending some of the materials I was using for the assignment, including directions and code samples, He ran through some of them before our meeting to better familiarize himself with the questions and problems. Once we got to the meeting, he had a plan of how to go about completing the assignment. He was very flexible and accommodating. I had a short turnaround time on my assignment, and he was able to carve out enough time from his day to meet with me and help me with my assignment. He was patient and calm during the meeting while also being able to help me work through the assignment efficiently and effectively. Overall, there's a reason why Ryan has 5-star reviews on Wyzant; he's very good at what he does, and it showed during our meeting.

Ryan helped finally be able to code in Python

I didn't understand why nothing worked and I couldn't follow Python tutorials for beginners without zillions of errors. Ryan helped me to sort out my base level dev environment. He also showed me how to create and use virtual environments. He also helped me write some documentation that I can reference in the future.

Very knowledgeable, flexible and personable with an individualized approach.

Ryan is helping me create and follow a personal learning plan to expand my "toolbox." He is helping me leverage my career experience in engineering & metrology to quickly add ML and Python to my skill set. I am not caught up wading through familiar fundamentals, sifting through papers and taking online classes. Instead, he helps me efficiently bridge the gaps required to pull it all together. He is very flexible, took extra effort to understand my goals and tailored his tutoring/mentoring to my learning style.

Best Tutor Ever!

Ryan was an absolute lifesaver in my daughter’s graduate level Machine Learning class. We had reached out to several other tutors to seek help on some more advanced topics in machine learning, and were not having much luck in finding anyone who could fully understand and explain her course material. Ryan was fantastic and helped her learn about advanced machine learning topics such as locality sensitive hashing, principle component analysis, clustering with gaussian mixture models, generative adversarial networks, spectral clustering, and a number of other algorithms. He was great at explaining the underlying theory as well as helping her code these algorithms from scratch. He was also flexible in offering a couple of last-minute sessions to help my daughter work through her problem sets on time, and very was responsive to questions over text. Best tutor we have ever had---highly recommend Ryan!

Ryan is the BEST!

This semester, I was required to take a graduate level Research Methods class. Statistics is not my strong suit, and I have little experience with programming software. My final project was a research report which required having working R code to answer my question. I picked a crime data set to understand if the installation of a certain development affected neighborhood crime rate over the years. My professor gave me instructions on which functions I needed to use to reshape my data and run regression tests (difference-in-difference quasi experimental model), but did not help me understand the concepts and how to do so. Our class lecture videos were not adequate. I knew that I needed a tutor and soon came across Ryan on Wyzant. Ryan has been a WONDERFUL tutor. He is patient and accommodating. I felt like a complete idiot on office hours with my professor, but with Ryan, I was not scared to ask questions and learn. He makes statistics and R easy to understand and he is extremely knowledgeable. Our tutoring sessions were interactive and Ryan is very easy to talk to. Ryan helped me meet all of my project guidelines. Use Ryan as your tutor!!
