I'm a graduate of Princeton University with a passion for teaching. I quite simply enjoy leading students through difficult course material and preparing them for standardized exams. I believe that learning is an ongoing process and that tutoring should make that process more manageable.

My tutoring services mainly focus on test preparation. Scoring in the 99th percentile on the math and chemistry sections of the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, SAT, SAT Subject, and AP exams, I have also obtained high combined scores in the math and verbal sections of the SAT (99th percentile) and GRE (98th percentile) exams.

Tutoring for over 6 years, I credit my success to a single philosophy: above all, I try to instill confidence in my clients by helping them manage their academic workload. In every lesson, I negotiate their expectations while also putting them in the best possible position to succeed. Beyond providing customized worksheets and study guides, my services reduce stress levels and increase sustained focus. Consequently, my sessions are known to be very productive.

My services also cover college/high school math and science courses. Since I have extensive experience working with local students attending Columbia, NYU, Hunter, and other CUNY schools, I am quite familiar with the testing style of specific professors.

Lastly, I am flexible with times and meeting locations. I work as a full-time tutor, so scheduling is rarely an issue. I mainly tutor within Manhattan, but also conduct lessons in Queens or Brooklyn, if my workload allows it. I also enjoy working online whenever students are unable to meet in person.

Best Regards,
Charles

GMAT,

GMAT

I'm an expert in standardized math test preparation, having recently scored a 50 on the GMAT's quantitative section. Being quite confident in my approach to the exam format (e.g. data sufficiency), I routinely employ methods that maximize time and content knowledge to achieve the highest score possible. Beyond that, I have access to a number of GMAT question banks, which have been helpful to dozens of clients over the years.
GRE

GRE

Though I scored in the 98th percentile (Q:163 V:163) of the GRE, I mainly focus on the quantitative portion while also discussing strategies and techniques used for all sections. Below you'll find answers to frequently asked questions, but feel free to contact me to discuss the benefits of tutoring. 1) How much can I expect my score to increase? Students who start tutoring with me at least one month prior to their exam date tend to improve their quantitative score by more than 8 points. 2) What resources do you provide? I provide standardized material from a range of test prep companies, including the official ETS material. I also hand out practice worksheets and study guides for review after each session. 3) How do you plan out sessions? During the first few sessions, I try to assess a client's comfort level with the material, reviewing past exam results and asking diagnostic questions. I then create a study plan, picking the topics and strategies I feel will most likely boost test scores in the shortest period of time. 4) How do you conduct each session? I spend the first part of each session answering questions about practice problems. I then try to drill though specific math topics as we work through setting up increasingly complicated exam questions.

Organic Chemistry,

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is a tricky course. It starts off simple enough, reviewing topics like orbital hybridization, line angle structures, and IUPAC nomenclature. However, when the class starts integrating reactions into the discussion, students are usually overwhelmed by the amount of memorization required. At this point, the difficulty level in Organic Chemistry I increases exponentially and it keeps rising through Organic Chemistry II. Once students fall behind, it's quite challenging for them to solve multi-step synthesis problems, to draw out mechanisms, and/or to memorize reagents confidently. I have 3 years of experience tutoring organic chemistry students at Hunter, Columbia, and Stonybrook. I've developed methods of organizing reagents and mechanisms by using study guides and worksheets customized to suit college curricula. I've also devised study strategies to maximize study time and to reduce frustrations. A number of students have reached their academic goals using these study techniques.

Great Tutor

Charles is a very careful, methodical teacher who takes the time to explain the material at hand in a detailed manner. Whenever there’s a concept that evades understanding on the first attempt, he finds a way to break it down into it’s simplest building blocks to make it as digestible as possible. Couldn’t recommend him any more highly.

A professional tutor who goes above and beyond 11/10 worth everything he charges and more!

Charles virtually tutored me and a classmate in Machine Learning. I had tried out other tutors for the subject and was coming across a lack of knowledge on the topic and professionalism. Charles, literally, came prepared not only to help complete assignments but to teach and inspire as well. Charles went above and beyond not only to accommodate schedules but answer questions and get a good understanding of Machine Learning/Data Science. I genuinely believe that without Charles's help I would have dropped the class, but he gave me the confidence to focus and keep going. Very lucky to have found him and couldn't give higher praise!
