Hello, I’m Stephen. Based in Manhattan's West Village, I bring a passion for languages and global education to my students. I hold a BA in Spanish and Russian from the University at Albany, SUNY, with minors in French and Italian, and I am fluent in Portuguese. My academic background includes studying in Moscow, Madrid, Paris, and Rome, alongside earning two certificates of excellence in Spanish and French at Penn State University. As a dual-licensed professional certified in teaching, I combine academic expertise with real-world communication.
My tutoring experience spans nearly two decades across classrooms and individual settings. I taught languages and ESL for five years at a private international school, including six months at the International School of Bavaro in the Dominican Republic. A dedicated private tutor since 2007 with Varsity Tutors and Gooroo, I instruct all age groups: preschoolers (ages 3-4), adolescents, young adult teens, college students, adults, and seniors. I have extensive experience tailoring lessons for gifted learners and individuals with unique needs, including learning disabilities and autism spectrum profiles.
My methodology relies on differentiated instruction and interactive immersion. Fluent in Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Russian, I unique teach across these languages, using one non-native tongue to instruct another for comparative learning. I also specialize in ESL to build fluency. I design creative lessons that break down grammar while providing structured independent practice. Beyond languages, I support young learners with elementary reading, writing, math, and executive functioning skills like organization. I love creating an encouraging space to share global knowledge and help you succeed.
