I’m a recent University of Florida graduate with a double major in Psychology (Behavioral & Cognitive Neuroscience track) and Sociology, plus a minor in French, completed through UF’s competitive Honors and University Research Scholars Programs. My own background in English is strong and exam-verified: I scored a 5 on both the AP English Literature and AP English Language exams in high school, along with a 750 on the SAT Reading section, so I bring both a deep personal command of the subject and firsthand experience with the exact standardized tests many high schoolers are working to master.
Beyond my own scores, I have real teaching experience. During college, I served as a Teaching Assistant for Biochemistry, a role where I led regular group sessions for undergraduate peers, breaking down dense material into clear, digestible explanations and adapting my teaching style to different learning paces. I also co-authored a peer-reviewed research paper published in the academic journal “Autism”, which sharpened my own academic writing, argument structure, and editing skills well beyond the classroom.
My approach to English tutoring focuses on the fundamentals that consistently move the needle: close reading and comprehension strategies, clear thesis-driven essay structure, grammar and mechanics, and building genuine confidence in a student’s own voice as a writer. I tailor each session to the individual student, whether that means working through a specific reading assignment, prepping for an in-class essay, or building longer-term skills for standardized tests like the SAT.
In addition to English, I also tutor biochemistry, drawing directly on my experience as an SI Leader for the subject. Having led regular sessions specifically in this material, I’m comfortable breaking down complex biochemical pathways, mechanisms, and problem sets into more manageable pieces.
I am eager to help students build both the confidence and tools to succeed in either subject!
