Hi! I am a recent Claremont McKenna College graduate with a degree in Biology, earned with honors. My coursework spans biology, general and organic chemistry, biochemistry, and mathematics, alongside experience in essay writing and preparing application materials.
My teaching experience is broad. I have been a volunteer tutor for middle schoolers in prealgebra and algebra, worked as a paid undergraduate teaching assistant for introductory college biology, and served as a writing center tutor helping students outline and revise essays across the humanities. I also bring insight into the admissions side of education, having worked as a senior interviewer for Claremont McKenna's admissions office.
My approach to tutoring comes from my own past struggles with STEM material. For years I confused time spent with actual understanding. I have since learned that real mastery requires more than reading a textbook, it requires visualizing and applying the material. When I tutor, I find where a student's understanding breaks down, rebuild the concept in smaller steps, and demonstrate my own problem solving process through diagrams and worked examples before having the student try their own. My goal is not just subject mastery but teaching students how to learn.
This same philosophy carries into my writing and application guidance. I received my colleges First Year History Prize, Sophomore History Prize, and a Literature Writing Award as an undergraduate, and my work reviewing applications as an interviewer and admissions committee member gives me a clear sense of what makes an application stand out. I help students draft and revise essays, personal statements, supplemental responses, and activity descriptions while keeping their voice intact.
Whether the work is an academic concept or an application essay, my goal remains the same. I want to build a space where students grow not just in what they know but in how they learn it.
