I have been teaching and tutoring since 1996 and currently teach 10th and 11th grade English and AP U.S. History and Government at Bay Ridge Preparatory School in Brooklyn. Over the course of my career, I have worked with middle school, high school, college, and adult students in English, history, writing, literature, government and politics, and philosophy. I have also taught SAT verbal, reading, and writing and ACT English, reading, and writing. At the college level, I have taught at Clemson University and the Gallatin School at NYU. I earned a B.A. in English Literature from Columbia College, Columbia University, and an M.F.A. in Theatre from Louisiana State University.
As a teacher and tutor, my focus is not just on grades and correct answers, but on helping students become stronger readers, writers, and thinkers. Rather than relying on memorization, I help students develop the reading, writing, and analytical skills that allow them to become more independent learners. I enjoy working with intellectually curious students, but I also have extensive experience helping those who lack confidence or have struggled academically. Regardless of the lesson, my goal is not only to improve grades and test scores but also to help students become more thoughtful, confident learners.
One of my goals as a teacher is to convey my enthusiasm for the humanities to my students. My own scholarly and creative interests include Shakespeare, Dostoevsky, classical tragedy, political theory, and philosophy.
