I am Matt! I graduated from Hamilton College with a major in sociology and minors in history and government. I then graduated from Columbia Teachers College with a masters in education for grades 7-12 with a specialty in history. I am a New York State certified teacher with four years of experience working with both middle and high school students. I believe it is important to tailor instruction and supports to best fit each student! Because of this I place an emphasis on learning each student's strengths, weaknesses, and interests to customize assignments and supports.
I have taught writing skills, Global and U.S. History, test preparation, and Civics/Government courses for students of all grades in middle and high school (6th-12). In addition to my experience in a larger classroom setting (teaching history and Civics.Government) I have developed individual writing/research assignments to improve these skills. Additionally, I have experience in small group and individual tutoring sessions. I lead small group interventions to prepare students for NY state Regents Exams for Global History, U.S. History, and Biology. In these sessions I worked on test taking strategies and content knowledge with students. I also tutored students individually on writing skills and study habits.
I offer personalized tutoring tailored to each student’s needs, whether they are looking to strengthen writing and research skills, prepare for exams, catch up in history/government courses, or build skills for college. I welcome any suggestions of information from parents about their student's needs. Sessions are available via zoom, with flexible scheduling.
