Hi! I am a NY & NJ TESOL certified bilingual (English - Spanish) English as a Second Language teacher with over 16 years of experience. Throughout my career, I have worked with students of all ages, helping them realize their goals, whether they be learning a second language (English or Spanish), improving their reading and writing skills, or preparing for important tests like the NYS ELA Regents or the SAT. I have a bachelor's degree in Spanish Language Arts from SUNY New Paltz (NY) and a master's degree in TESOL education from CUNY Lehman College (NYC).

I offer personalized, one-on- one tutoring for students of all ages, including English language development (ENL/ESL) including writing and conversation, Spanish language development (beginner through advanced, also including writing and conversation), English and Spanish reading comprehension, writing and grammar, (including essay writing for high school and college preparation), homework support in language arts and social studies, vocabulary development, and study skills.

Each of my lessons are tailored to the student’s individual goals, learning style, and pace. Whether you or your child needs help catching up, building confidence, or getting ahead, I create a supportive, encouraging environment that helps students make meaningful progress.

I offer both virtual and in-person tutoring (depending on location), with flexible afternoon, evening, and weekend availability.

I am a NY/NJ certified TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) teacher with over 16 years of experience working with English learners of all ages and from many different countries. In addition to teaching basic vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation to my students, I also teach them the vocabulary necessary for them to comprehend grade level texts (I currently co-teach English Language Arts at the 11th grade level). Whether my students need to improve their class grade, perform well on the SAT's or NYS ELA Regents exam, write a college application essay, or perfect their speech/ pronunciation, my job is to help them achieve their goal(s).

I began my journey as a Spanish Language Learner at a young age and have been living my life in both languages for over 30 years. Beginning with Spanish language classes in High School, I continued learning in college and during a yearlong study abroad experience in Spain. I graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a degree in Spanish Language Arts and continued to use my Spanish for work as a tutor to children and families of migrant farmworkers and eventually a certified ENL teacher to students from many Spanish speaking countries. On a more personal level, I have used my Spanish daily with my husband and in-laws (who are from Peru) and in raising our two children bilingually. Additionally, living in Upper Manhattan - which has a large Dominican population - makes it necessary to use Spanish on a daily basis.
Vocabulary

Vocabulary

As a certified English as a New Language teacher, part of my job consists of teaching English learners the vocabulary they need in order to access grade level classwork in English. Currently, I co-teach English Language Arts to both English learners and native speakers in the 11th grade. In addition to classwork, I teach students the vocabulary they need to achieve high scores on the NYS English Regents exam and the SAT, as well as helping them to successfully express themselves in their college application essays.
