My approach to the writing process is founded upon my experience as an editor for a literary magazine with over 500,000 monthly pageviews, where I helped writers craft compelling and authentic essays for both print and online publication. As a student in UCLA’s English program, I have also studied in workshops with some of our most acclaimed contemporary novelists, and won the university’s highest award for short writing in my Junior year.

I’ve come to understand, however, that developing a powerful story is just as much about nurturing a writer’s voice as it is honing their material. For over five years, I was an instructor of argumentation and persuasive writing through the Public Debate Program, working closely with hundreds of students across all ages. As a former member of the U.S. International Debate Team and a top-10 ranked competitor in the Parliamentary format, I know how to guide you toward a compelling narrative, rather than simply tidy up your sentences. My time at the Public Debate Program was specifically directed toward students in underfunded districts, so I’ve lectured and tutored a broad range of students with various backgrounds and writing styles, empowering each one of them to tell a story that’s uniquely their own!

My primary focus is college counseling, specifically in supporting students with their personal statements. The goal of the personal statement is to create a portrayal that is both genuine and gripping, which is why my process involves plenty of communication and questions. On the journey to a stand-out story, building confidence in the writer is crucial! My specialty is understanding what qualities distinguish you as a multifaceted, promising candidate, and then helping you develop a narrative that best showcases your skills and passions.

I am committed to not only the success of your work, but to your personal growth! It brings me immense satisfaction to understand each student's nuances, and to capture those dimensions on the page. I can’t wait to meet you!

Debate

Debate

Alongside a successful career in the Parliamentary style (formerly #1 in my year in national high school rankings, with multiple tournament wins and Nationals appearances), I have taught argumentation to students from elementary to high school. At these programs, I gave lectures on rhetoric and strategy, coached students individually, judged competitions, and wrote individualized feedback.
Essay Writing

Essay Writing

I spent nine months working on the editorial team of a literary magazine, where I contributed to our daily online publication and a quarterly print magazine. Many of the writers I've collaborated with have been widely published and acclaimed. Additionally, I learned to write compelling essays as a student in UCLA's English program, and won a first-place award in my Junior year for a piece of short writing.
Personal Statements

Personal Statements

I have edited dozens of personal essays on the editorial team of an acclaimed literary magazine, some of which have been published in print. I have also taught argumentation, rhetoric, and debate for five years across all age groups through Claremont McKenna College. As a UCLA alum who wrote many personal statements and helped others draft their own, I have a thorough understanding of what universities look for and how to craft a compelling case for oneself.
Proofreading

Proofreading

I proofread dozens of pieces for an acclaimed literary magazine's web output: essays, reviews, and interviews. Additionally, I proofread four print issues for the same magazine, each at least 160 pages. I also have extensive proofreading experience via UCLA's English program, in which I wrote many essays and took part in multiple writing workshops.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

My time as a competitor in (and, later, an instructor of) high-level debate required not only argumentation, but the oration skills to give an argument tone and flair. Public speaking was part of my curriculum as a teacher; I gave lectures to hundreds of students on both prepared and extemporaneous speeches.
Writing

Writing

I’ve worked on the editorial team of an acclaimed literary magazine, where I assisted writers in developing essays and reviews. I have years of experience as a tutor of persuasive writing and argumentation. As a student at UCLA, I studied the craft with many leading novelists, poets, and critics; a piece I wrote won UCLA’s highest award for short-form writing.
