Hi! My name is Michael, and I'm a rising sophomore at the Watson College of Engineering at Binghamton University, studying Computer Science and Mathematics. In addition, I graduated from Stuyvesant High School with a 97.7 GPA last June. I strongly believe that students who need help in certain subjects are never incapable of understanding the material, but rather are being taught in a way that conflicts with their own brains and styles. Some students prefer formulas, but many would do better with mental images, analogies, mnemonics, and other tools that make learning more fun and effective. For example, functions are a difficult CS concept to understand, but thinking of them as vending machines with inputs and outputs can really help!
I have been tutoring or teaching computer science and other STEM fields for several years. At Stuyvesant I was a member of the CS Dojo, an organization where students would go to get help for their computer science homework, projects, or just to ask questions. I also have privately tutored a 10th grade student in preparation for the APCS, AP Calculus BC, and SAT exams and achieved high results with him.
I want to make sure each student is in a learning environment that they are comfortable with and can learn at their best, and I welcome suggestions from both students and parents to achieve that end. I'm always happy to hear feedback and work collaboratively with my students. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson!
