I'm a Wesleyan University graduate with a B.A. in Psychology and a 3.85 GPA, currently tutoring full-time as both a test prep and academic subject tutor with a national online tutoring service. Before transferring to Wesleyan, I spent two years at the University of Pennsylvania, splitting my coursework between the Wharton School of Business and the College of Arts and Sciences. I first started tutoring informally in high school, helping classmates and younger students prepare for tests and work through tough coursework, and I've continued tutoring in some form ever since -- so while my professional tutoring resume is recent, my experience helping other people learn goes back well over a decade.
A lot of what shapes me as a tutor comes from work outside the classroom. I spent several years working with young adults in a transitional living program, where coaching executive function, study skills, and emotional regulation was part of my daily job, and earlier in my career I worked as a Direct Support Professional with children on the autism spectrum and with other developmental and behavioral differences. Those experiences taught me to meet each student where they are, build trust quickly, and stay patient when material isn't clicking. I've also done research work that spanned data analysis for a portable solar generator at a national physics lab and helping a Nobel laureate in economics prepare a publication on U.S. fiscal policy, so I'm equally comfortable in technical, analytical, and humanities-heavy subjects.
My approach is collaborative and goal-driven. I start every tutoring relationship by figuring out what a student is actually trying to accomplish, and then I build a plan around that goal. Lessons are interactive: I push students to do the thinking and work through problems themselves rather than watch me solve them. Feel free to reach out with any questions -- I'd love to hear what you're working on and figure out how I can help.
