I'm Kaelyn! I graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science specializing in Legal Studies, and a minor in French. Since kindergarten, I've always had an admiration for math. In college I was indecisive in knowing if I wanted to study law in hopes of becoming a Financial Lawyer or studying Mathematics. During 2020, I had decided to take a gap year from attending law school to become a Middle School Teacher in the heart of New York City. Although I enjoyed studying Political Science, I found that my efforts were best suited in the classroom rather than the court room.
Currently, I have been teaching for 6 years. I've taught 6th grade math for 3 years, 7th grade math for 2 years, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 for 1 year and I am currently teaching Geometry. I have been a tutor since I was in middle school. In high school, I had the opportunity to be in the Math Honor Society where I had 30+ hours of tutoring experience. I also accumulated more opportunities in College to tutor other college students to achieve passing scores as well as better understanding of the content they were learning. I have worked with students with IEP's and 504 Plans. I do well with scaffolding information to making it more easily digestible for them to comprehend.
I teach and tutor not only to build understanding and comprehension but also to teach fundamental life skills that are not usually taught in school anymore. My moto since I began teaching was "I aim to get those who hate math to like it, those who like it to love it, and those who love it to perfect it." Every new class I teach and every new student I tutor I inform them of this moto. In my 6 years of teaching along with tutoring, I have not been successful in this moto with 8 students. I am always reachable and usually reply to communications within 5 hours. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have! I look forward to scheduling a session with you!
