Jessy M. is a first-year medical student at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. A lifelong New York native, she is an alumna of Stuyvesant High School and Barnard College of Columbia University. Having navigated the rigor of New York City’s competitive academic environments, she understands the demands of standardized testing and high-level coursework and is passionate about helping students thrive in similar settings.
During her time at Stuyvesant, she was a member of ARISTA National Honors Society, a QuestBridge National College Match Finalist, a National Merit Commended Student, and an AP Scholar with Distinction. While balancing her pre-med coursework with 10 APs, competing on a dance team, and other extracurricular activities, she developed strong time management strategies and is happy to share advice on building resilience, preventing burnout, and honing studying skills with her students.
Jessy graduated from Barnard College in 2024 with a B.A. in Neuroscience and Behavior as a recipient of a four-year full-tuition merit scholarship. During college, Jessy conducted research at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and New York State Psychiatric Institute. She received recognition for her research from the Neuroscience Department for her senior thesis research project studying the pharmacokinetics of depression, winning the Young Scholar Prize for Outstanding Research Project and Lucy Moses Pre-Medical Scholarship Award. Jessy was named as a Dean’s List recipient and Senior Marshall for the class of 2024 at commencement.
Outside of research, she also worked as an Advising Fellow with Matriculate for four years, mentoring first-generation students through the college admissions process, with mentees earning acceptances to institutions including Harvard, MIT, and Columbia. She also offers college and medical school application advising and is passionate about helping students reach their personal and academic goals.
