I’m Leslie. I grew up in an apartment with nearly ten thousand books lining the walls! You can read more about that at The Atlantic, in an essay I wrote called “The Organization of Your Bookshelves Tells Its Own Story.” My mother was an actress and my father, a doctor. Both were storytellers at heart. They shared their love of all aspects of language: grammar, usage, scan, meter, rhythm, and rhyme. They were my first and most exacting teachers, and I went on to receive a B.A. in English and English Literature from Columbia University as a result.
For the last decade, in addition to freelance writing, I have worked as a writing tutor and coach, as well as an editor. I’ve had clients as young as ten and as “grown up” as ninety. Whether you’re a high school student struggling with an essay, a middle school child who needs help with grammar and composition, or a person who has written a memoir or novel, I can help.
I have lots of experience working with teens who have been diagnosed with ADHD, starting with my own teenager, who now attends LaGuardia. I have gathered a variety of techniques for keeping my clients engaged in and focused on the material. It’s my job to inspire and energize my clients.
Other Facts About Me: I grew up in Hollywood. I’m an experienced television, film, and theatre actress. I’m a trained ballet dancer. I minored in Biology. My husband is a middle grade author. We have a dog named Albert. I’ve written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Salon, The Los Angeles Review of Books, SELF, The Huffington Post, The New York Daily News, Scary Mommy, Longreads, and others.
