Because writing requires the coordination of many complex tasks, it is not unusual for students to struggle with writing. And because each writer is unique, there isn't a one-size-fits all approach to supporting a writer's development. I begin by learning about the student's writing history so that I can assess strengths and challenges and tailor instruction accordingly. Together we create strategies for effective writing and meeting deadlines. Students will develop an appreciation for their unique writing process and gain greater comfort and confidence in their abilities, allowing them to approach writing tasks with greater independence.
My approach to supporting writers is unique, combining an appreciation for the challenges that writers face, along with knowledge of best practices for the teaching of writing. Always, I am guided by the belief that anyone can become a confident, skilled and joyful writer.
