I currently study Developmental Psychology at the Teachers College of Columbia. I have over 7 years tutoring experience and currently tutor middle school and high school math up until algebra/geometry. Additionally, I provide advising for college admissions.
My tutoring style focuses on helping students to have a greater conceptual understanding of content, rather than solely building procedural knowledge. Children often have gaps in knowledge due to instruction that relies on memorization of steps and not a true understanding of content.
My main philosophy, however, is that children need to be intrinsically motivated and not extrinsically motivated. Children always thrive more when they WANT to improve themselves.
