Hi, I'm Charlie. I recently graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science. While I was at Columbia, I worked extremely hard to earn a 3.89 overall GPA, as well as Dean's List and National Honors Society status.
Prior to attending Columbia, I went to the Churchill School and Center, which is an elementary, middle, and high school designed to help students who struggle with learning disabilities. Going to a school like this taught me the strategies and techniques I needed to become an effective learner, and ultimately to tackle difficult college level coursework in Computer Science and other fields.
As a tutor, I think my biggest strength is being able to take a difficult task that the student is struggling with and break it down into clear and simple steps. I think that for most people computer science, as it was for me when I first started, can be extremely intimidating and unfriendly to beginners. In my tutoring, I try to demystify the process of becoming better at coding and place an emphasis on gradual improvement and building confidence and independence. I have experience tutoring my peers in high school, college, and working as a teaching assistant where I worked with students 1 on 1 and in small groups. I have found all of these roles to be extremely fulfilling and I am very excited by the prospect of tutoring on the Wyzant platform.
