Hello! My name is Madison, and I am currently a first year graduate student in Columbia University's MS in Climate program. I recently graduated from UC Berkeley with an Honors BS in Environmental Sciences, along with minors in Chinese and Environmental Economics and Policy. My academic path has spanned climate and data science, environmental economics, sustainability, and Chinese language. Throughout my undergraduate career, I was most inspired by professors and teaching assistants who taught with passion and enthusiasm, and who worked collaboratively and patiently with students to deepen their understanding. I strive to bring the same energy and approach to my own tutoring, creating an encouraging space where students feel supported, engaged, and confident. By combining clear explanations, real-world examples, and repetitive practice, I help students turn challenging concepts into skills they can confidently apply on their own.
I have three years of tutoring experience through the RISE program Berkeley High School, which supports students from low-income and marginalized communities. I assisted with homework, essay writing, and college applications, working one-on-one with students. I worked with all grade levels in subjects including Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, History, and English. I begin by having students share what they know or how they would approach a problem, then build on that foundation by explaining relevant concepts and breaking down complex problems into smaller steps. For more abstract topics, I use fun examples to make the material more relatable. Afterward, I ask students to explain what they learned and solve a similar problem to reinforce confidence and understanding.
I aspire to build each student's confidence as a learner. I am committed to providing open communication, flexibility, and strategies tailored to help each student reach their goals. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or to schedule a sessi
