I graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Secondary Mathematics Education. I am currently in my first year of teaching at a middle school in the South Bronx and have experience tutoring students 1-on1 at both the middle school and high school level.
I use recent research backed techniques to develop a deeper understanding of mathematics that combine student-led exploration with teacher-led instruction. This approach allows students to explore and discover using skills and problem solving strategies that they already have and use them to extend their learning to unfamiliar problem. My approach also incorporates some fluency based practice that allows students to develop certain base-line skills.
I believe in helping students develop their own love for math by empowering them to be confident in their mathematical abilities. I believe that making mistakes allows us to learn and provide opportunities to discover new strategies.
