My tutoring career started when I was in high school. Back then I was the President of my school's HOSA chapter and would tutor my peers in health science related courses. I also tutored for STEM classes such as AP Chemistry, AP Physics I-II, and AP Calc AB-BC. Once at my undergraduate institution I worked as a teaching assistant (TA) for general, organic, and inorganic chemistry, and as a lab assistant (LA) for general, inorganic, and analytical chemistry. During my undergraduate career I majored in chemistry and had the opportunity to take advanced courses such as organic, inorganic, bioinorganic, quantum, analytical, thermodynamics, materials, and biomimetic chemistry. In addition to my coursework and teaching experience, I did research during my undergraduate career focusing on developing photocatalysts for the degradation of environmental water pollutants such as synthetic estrogens.
Needless to say, I fell in love with the subject of chemistry and also gained a passion for teaching complex chemical phenomena to my students in a digestible and accurate manner. This led me to graduate school where I’m currently pursuing my PhD at Columbia. In grad school I’ve had the pleasure to continue my coursework and research, further delving into the beautiful subject of chemistry. I also have several semesters of teaching experience while in grad school for the general chemistry courses.
Here are a couple reviews from my time teaching general chemistry in grad school:
"Kevin is a great TA. He puts in the effort to help all the students understand and it's clear that he knows the content very well."
"Kevin was GREAT. He broke down ALL the lecture info into digestible chucks and his recitations were THE BEST. His recitation worksheets are great for exam and quiz preparation. He took our feedback and implemented it to make sure that we had the best experience possible. He was great."
I look forward to working with you and helping you succeed! I love chemistry and am excited to help you grow!
