Hi there! My name is Makda, and I am an experienced mentor/tutor. Former mentees of mine have received full ride scholarships to internationally acclaimed graduate programs, and seen significant improvements in their performance at school. I hold a M.A. in Human Rights from Columbia University, where I was the Editor-in-Chief for my institute's student journal. I have extensive writing, proofreading, and editing experience. Since Columbia I have worked with various nonprofits, at which I collaborated with activists from around the world to design and produce special advocacy projects. I also mentor students from Ukraine that have been affected by the Russian invasion as a volunteer. I really enjoy tutoring and have received very positive feedback from all the students I've worked with before. I was a KUMON kid, if anyone is familiar, so when it comes to k-6/algebra 1 math, I have tons of tips and tricks for making those problems make a bit more sense. While my tutoring experience is mainly related to reading and writing I am also very comfortable with a variety of subjects! I am also happy to answer any questions to give you a better sense of my experience/expertise!

Essay Writing

I was Editor-in-Chief for a graduate-level student journal at Columbia University. My M.A. required an intensive amount of writing training and submissions -- mainly research papers, short and long-form essays, and policy memos. Working in various nonprofit and legal offices has made me very comfortable with various writing forms, including blog posts, memos, brief summaries of current events, and more.
United States History

United States History

My M.A. in Human Rights required a significant amount of historical studies -- these focused on both world history and U.S. history. In high school I took AP U.S. history and passed the exam, and am familiar with the layout of the test. My love of/interest in history is what initially prompted me to study human rights -- because the more I learned about history (especially US history), the more I discovered why systems exist the way they do today.
