Hello, my name is Lillian! I am a graduate of Smith College and received my Bachelor of Arts in History and Biochemistry with a focus on French. Since graduation, I have worked and lived in France as an English teacher in a primary school and worked as an online essay review tutor for children in the United States. I am passionate about teaching English and French, and enjoy working on essays and creative writing projects with students. I believe that it is never too late to learn a new skill, and encourage students to work outside of their comfort zones. I try to accommodate students' learning needs the best I can, since we all learn a bit differently. I do my best to make learning fun for everyone, and enjoy drawing and using multimedia tools during my lessons.
After completing my bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry and History at Smith College, I moved to France, where I stayed for three years and fostered an extensive knowledge of the French language. I first taught English in a school in Corsica, and afterwards I worked for one year as a Writing Review Tutor online in both French and English, during which I reviewed over 1000 essays written by children and adults. I currently work as a humanities and French tutor online. I should also mention that I have one year of experience tutoring French at the college level and working as a research assistant for a French professor studying Marcel Proust’s In Search of Lost Time. My accent is that of a mainland French speaker from Bordeaux (I learned from Parisian professors but subsequently lived in the south west of France). A native English speaker, I grew up in western Massachusetts and would describe my accent in English as Western New England English.
In all my time tutoring, I believe in creating a fun learning atmosphere and boosting children’s confidence in their abilities. I am passionate about working with students on vocabulary, reading comprehension, grammar, and writing. My current average tutoring rating at my current position is 5/5.
