I am a current undergraduate student at the University of Texas at Austin. I have previously held teaching roles as a three-year peer mentor at my high school, guiding students through effective interpersonal communication and professional relationships, and as a four-year martial instructor, founding my own initiative to bring discipline and personal development to neurodivergent individuals. I have taught in one-on-one settings, in a classroom environment, and online, primarily as volunteer experience. I have taught students ranging from age 5-15. My primary methods consisted of making my content relatable, and gamifying the teaching experience with fun exercises.
I was a competitive extemporaneous speaker through the National Speech and Debate Association for three years, on the local and national level. In my debate career, I achieved the following: Top-10 in the nation at the National Speech and Debate Tournament, Top-5 in the nation at the Tournament of Champions, Semifinalist at the Barkley Forum for High Schools, Quarterfinalist at the Glenbrooks Invitational, 3-time National Qualifier and State Champion. I achieved a degree of Superior Distinction from the NSDA, which I achieved by accumulating points for high ranks at local and national tournaments.
Throughout my career, the majority of feedback centered around my fluent speech, depth of content/analysis, and forward-thinking approach. Outside of debate, this has led me to receive speaker awards including that of best community service project pitch from The Dragon Kim Foundation, a social entrepreneurship incubator in Irvine, California. For my students, I aim to first lay the foundation of critical thinking, concise communication, and fluent speaking, as these are primary keys to conveying any type of message. On top of that, however, I would develop an instinct of forward-thinking, allowing new ideas to develop from analysis, and encouraging success not only in a public speaking setting, but also in general creative projects.
