Hi, I’m Esther! I graduated with high distinction in English Literature from the University of Rochester. I also majored in Psychology and minored in East Asian Studies. I offer tutoring services to middle school, high school, and college-aged students looking to refine their academic writing skills or reading comprehension. My approach involves understanding that there are various learning strategies for different people. Therefore, I provide guidance and support through strategies tailored to each student's learning needs.

When I began to build my tutoring approach, I thought back to how my favorite English courses were those where the professors cared about engaging with students at their level. My professor's commitment to classroom engagement stemmed from an equal passion for studying and teaching English. I learned more about tutoring and teaching methods, developing several writing and reading improvement strategies based on those of respected writing instructors and teachers. Inspired by my professors, I focused on creating strategies malleable to different learning styles and levels. For example, I coached my younger sibling, aged 17, in person with their high school-level writing assignments. I also provided virtual tutoring to a high school student, aged 16, for their grammar and vocabulary skills. Overall, my tutoring experiences culminated in about a year altogether.

My Psychology major led me to bring cognitive-based theories to my tutoring approach. For example, cognitive theories on how individuals process and retain information inform my sentence and paragraph structure guidance. Learning and practicing proper writing structures improves writing skills and reading comprehension. I’m excited to help you discover your writing voice and grow as a reader.
