I am a college mathematics instructor with over 5 years of experience in one-on-one tutoring for middle and high school students in the SAT, algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, statistics, physics, and English. I am also able to assist with college applications and essays. Many of my students have gone on to gain admissions to prestigious universities such as Columbia University, UCLA, NYU, etc. I earned my MA in Mathematics from the City University of New York where I am currently employed as a lecturer.
My approach to teaching is always to explain WHY something works as opposed to relying on the rote-memorization increasingly utilized in public and private schools. I've found that this approach to teaching, especially for mathematics and physics, is the best fit for every child that I have encountered, and I have tutored a diverse range of students, including those with dyslexia and dyscalculia. I build up my students by teaching them to start from first principles and work our way into the more complicated mathematics, and I make sure to review the relevant material before each lesson. This ensures that they never feel nervous or forgetful, instead they feel like they are solving puzzles and playing games -- I cannot count the number of times I've received a message from a student saying, "I think something is WRONG with me... I'm finding physics FUN?!"
I am looking forward to sharing my passion for mathematics and physics with more children, especially those who are not confident with the subject. I have had students in particular, who, though they hated the subject when we first met, have gone on to major in mathematics, and now work as financiers and computer programmers. This level of success is not the norm, but with relative certainty I can say that, if given the right direction and instruction, students will learn to like mathematics! Please do not hesitate to get in contact and set up a lesson!
