I recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh's Frederick C. Honors College with a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences in Biological Sciences, along with minors in Chemistry and Sociology, while following a Pre-Med track. My tutoring journey began in high school, where I supported students in Advanced Placement courses such as Calculus BC, Chemistry, Biology, and Psychology. I continued to tutor high school students until my second year of university. Soon after, I worked as an undergraduate teaching assistant for Molecular Biology Lab, Anatomy & Physiology and Organic Chemistry.

Teaching and assisting students taking higher level classes such as physiology and organic chemistry, I learned a lot about different students’ learnings styles, and various techniques that help students not only learn information but retain the concepts for long periods of time. For example, during office hours, I frequently assisted students in creating concept maps to break down complex topics and illustrate how they connect to broader themes. I believe understanding the big picture is crucial for effective learning, as it helps students see the interrelationships between various concepts. To further enhance learning, I also worked with students to create flashcards for Chemistry and Biology, tailored to address specific areas where students needed additional practice. These flashcards were designed to aid in effective recall and understanding. Additionally, I employed active recall techniques during practice sessions, prompting students to retrieve information from memory rather than merely reviewing notes.

My approach is highly individualized; I assess each student’s unique learning style and adapt my methods accordingly. Whether through detailed concept maps, targeted flashcards, or interactive practice sessions, I strive to make learning both accessible and enjoyable. My goal is to empower students to achieve their academic objectives and develop a love for learning.
