Hello! My name is James, and I am a recently graduated software engineer and data analyst who tutors part-time. I graduated from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and grew up in the competitive Silicon Valley Bay Area in Northern California.

I have been tutoring since 2016, working with students from 2nd grade to high school seniors. I specialize in middle school and early high school math, including Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2/Trigonometry, and Precalculus Honors.

Math is my primary subject, and I excel at simplifying complex topics into digestible concepts. I focus on building a strong foundation, ensuring students understand fundamental concepts before progressing. My goal is to make math accessible and enjoyable, fostering confidence and competence in my students.

For writing instruction, my approach is structured and holistic. I teach students to view writing as a means of communicating their thoughts clearly and purposefully. I emphasize the importance of grammar and sentence structure, showing how small adjustments can significantly improve clarity. As students progress, they engage in extensive revision and editing, which helps them recognize and correct frequent errors, leading to natural improvement.

I believe that academic success is intertwined with overall well-being. Therefore, my tutoring approach addresses both academic and personal development. I strive to be more than just a teacher, offering mentorship and support tailored to each student's needs.
