Hi, I'm Jo! I graduated from Princeton University in 2020 with a degree in political theory. I have earned ACT/SAT scores in the 99 percentile and earned the Spirit of Princeton award. I love empowering people to express themselves in new and creative ways. I believe that learners of all ages should be agents of their own learning. My lessons highlight topics that are interesting, relevant, and incorporate a variety of mediums to maximize retention. Sessions will typically begin with the introduction of the topic before transitioning to a conversation-based learning method (also known as the Socratic Method), followed by exercises to apply learnings.
I have many years of teaching at various grade levels, beginning as an assistant teacher at a Michigan childcare center and working with learners ages 3 - 14 for 5 years. Since then I have gained 3 years of 1-on-1 tutoring experience preparing middle and high school students for subjects such as biology, reading, and essay writing. I also enjoy preparing high school students for the college application processes.
Outside of tutoring, I serve as the Director of Community for the Princeton University Investment Company, Princeton University’s endowment office. Prior to Princeton, I worked on executive communications and international projects at Microsoft. I have experience regularly speaking and writing for audiences of thousands and helped students, community activists, corporate, and non-profit executives find their voice.
My goal is to make our classes a pleasurable and safe learning space where students can grow towards their goals and in their critical thinking - regardless of the subject. I am easy to communicate with and love incorporating feedback into sessions. Please reach out to see how we might be able to work together!
