Hi! My name is Nikhil and I am a student at the University of Chicago with an intense passion for tutoring and working with children! I have experience tutoring several subjects and age groups, but specialize in working with middle and high school students.

The majority of my experience lies in a nonprofit I began in 2021 to teach elementary school students Spanish for free; the program has involved and supported roughly 500 students and has been a great passion of mine. I not only teach Spanish, but am well equipped to help students in other school specific subjects like history, geography, and English.

I also have experience with Speech & Debate. In high school, I was the captain of my school's Debate and Model UN teams and competed on the national circuit, reaching the final rounds of the NSDA National Tournament for Extemporaneous Debate and coming in third place at the Peninsula Tournament for Parliamentary Debate. In addition to the formats mentioned, I have also competed in Policy, Public Forum, and Congressional Debate. Currently, I work on the leadership staff of "Debate Camp Canada," a summer camp for elementary and middle school students interested in developing their debate abilities for high school.

Finally, I enjoy helping students with preparation for admissions processes, if it be the SAT/ISEE, essay writing, or interview prep. I have worked with a number of students in NYC and helped them gain entrance into schools such as Collegiate and Trinity.

Thanks so much for taking the time to get to know me!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I am a Business Economics student at the University of Chicago with coursework in Statistical Methods & Applications and Managerial Microeconomics, and I use algebraic reasoning constantly in financial modeling during my investment banking internships. I scored a 1530 on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT, both of which lean heavily on Algebra 1 material. I have tutored high school students through the nonprofit I founded and through Moneythink at the University of Chicago. Algebra 1 is where students either build or lose confidence in math, so I spend real time on the fundamentals rather than rushing to procedures.
American History

American History

I worked at the New-York Historical Society for roughly 2 years. I also doubled history classes throughout high school and have experience with the Ap exams.
Debate

Debate

I was co-captain of both my high school debate and Model UN teams and competed through my senior year. I currently serve as Regional Coordinator and Program Developer for Debate Camp USA & Canada, where I oversee programming across more than 20 locations serving over 2,000 students annually and directly manage our U.S. camps in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Boston, and elsewhere. I overhauled and implemented the Model UN and Parliamentary Debate curricula now used across the program. I work with students at every level, from first-time speakers to national competitors.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

I study Business Economics at the University of Chicago and have completed coursework in Statistical Methods and Managerial Microeconomics, so the fundamentals are second nature. I founded a nonprofit tutoring organization and have worked with elementary and middle school students on building number sense and confidence with arithmetic. Through Moneythink, I design and teach applied math modules that ground concepts in real situations students recognize. I focus on making sure students understand why a method works, which prevents the gaps that show up later in algebra.
English

English

I am a Business Economics and Philosophy student at the University of Chicago, a program built almost entirely on close reading and argumentative writing. In high school I served as Executive Editor of the Collegiate Journal, where I spent two years editing student writing across every subject area and coaching writers through revisions. I also founded a nonprofit tutoring organization and have worked with students from elementary through high school level. My focus is on helping students build an argument and support it clearly, rather than just fixing errors after the fact.
European History

European History

I worked at the New-York Historical Society for roughly 2 years. I also doubled history classes throughout high school and have experience with the Ap Exams.
Geography

Geography

I was co-captain of my high school Model UN team, which required detailed working knowledge of world regions, borders, and the political geography behind international issues. I now develop Model UN curricula for Debate Camp USA & Canada, a program reaching over 2,000 students a year across 20+ locations. I scored a 5 on AP European History, which is heavily grounded in the geography of the continent. I teach geography through the context that makes it stick — why borders sit where they do — rather than through rote map memorization.
Geometry

Geometry

I scored a 1530 on the SAT and a 35 on the ACT, both of which test geometry heavily under time pressure. I study Business Economics at the University of Chicago with coursework in Statistical Methods & Applications, and I have tutored high school math through the nonprofit I founded and through Moneythink. Geometry rewards a specific habit — draw the figure, mark what you know, and work backward from what the question asks — and that process is what I teach first. I also work with students on writing proofs, which is often the part that feels least intuitive.
Grammar

Grammar

I spent two years as Executive Editor of the Collegiate Journal, line-editing student writing on deadline across a wide range of subjects. That work made me very familiar with the errors students repeat most often — agreement, modifier placement, comma use, and sentence fragments — and how to explain the underlying rule rather than just correcting the sentence. I currently study Philosophy at the University of Chicago, which demands precise and unambiguous prose. I tutor with the goal of making the correction unnecessary the next time.
Literature

Literature

I study Philosophy at the University of Chicago, where the core of the work is close textual analysis and constructing arguments about difficult writing. As Executive Editor of my high school journal, I worked with student writers on interpretive essays and helped them move from summary toward genuine analysis. I have tutored students across levels through the nonprofit I founded, and I am comfortable working with everything from assigned novels to poetry and drama. I emphasize teaching students how to build a reading of a text they can defend with evidence.
Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365

I have used the Microsoft 365 suite daily through investment banking career experience, building three-statement financial models in Excel, drafting CIMs and pitch materials in PowerPoint and Word, and managing document workflows across teams. I currently study Business Economics at the University of Chicago and list Microsoft 365 among my core professional skills. I also coordinate logistics for a national program spanning 20+ locations, which runs almost entirely on Microsoft tools. I teach the specific workflows people actually need rather than walking through every menu.
Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I have a substantial amount of experience with several forms of public speaking, stemming from my work in speech & debate and MUN. More specifically, in high school, I was the captain of my school's Speech & Debate and Model Un Teams, in which I competed nationally for Public Forum, Policy, and Congressional Debate, along with Extemporaneous speaking. I also have experience in instructing debate, working on the leadership team of "Debate Camp Canada" to develop curriculum and structure camps, while also instructing and running a number of camp locations.
Spelling

Spelling

I served as Executive Editor of a journal for two years, proofreading student writing and catching the spelling and usage errors that spellcheck routinely misses. I founded a nonprofit tutoring organization and have worked with students from elementary age through high school. I focus on the patterns behind common misspellings — homophones, doubled consonants, and suffix rules — so students can generalize rather than memorize word by word. I keep sessions light and low-pressure, which matters a great deal with younger students.
United States History

United States History

I scored a 5 on AP U.S. History and a 5 on AP European History, and I have tutored students at all levels, including AP. These courses are decided by the writing as much as the content, so I focus heavily on thesis construction, document analysis, and building an argument under time pressure. My Philosophy coursework at the University of Chicago is built on exactly that skill set. I founded a nonprofit tutoring organization and have several years of experience adapting to how individual students learn.
