I help students raise SSAT, ISEE, and SHSAT verbal scores while developing clear, confident writing. I am a full-time ELA, reading, and writing specialist who works primarily with middle and upper school students preparing for selective schools and competitive academic programs.

With more than 1,300 hours of one-on-one tutoring experience, I have helped students significantly raise scores on the ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, and HSPT. Families often seek me out after working with other tutors when they want a more focused, strategic approach and measurable progress.

I also work closely with students on admissions and academic essays, supporting idea development, structure, and precision while preserving each student’s authentic voice. For high school students, I provide targeted preparation for ACT and SAT Reading and Writing, with a focus on comprehension, grammar, and timing.

My approach is structured and results-driven. Lessons are designed around each student’s academic profile, goals, and timeline, with an emphasis on close reading, verbal reasoning, analytical writing, grammar, and high-utility vocabulary. The goal is durable skill-building, not short-term test tricks.

I also offer targeted preparation for the NYS English Language Arts Regents and the Hunter College High School entrance exam, with a strong focus on text-based writing and exam-specific expectations. Wendy is an excellent SSAT tutor, and we feel very fortunate to have worked with her. She helped our 5th-grade son prepare for the middle-level SSAT on short notice, focusing on reading comprehension and analogies, which were his most challenging areas. From the first session, Wendy quickly identified where comprehension and timing were breaking down and tailored her strategies to our son’s needs. Her sessions were focused, confidence-building, and supported by helpful follow-up materials such as targeted Quizlet lists and clear lesson summaries.
